WHAT RELATION WAS ANNIE WILCOX TO WILLIAM WILCOX

dancingqueen Report 21 May 2010 21:20

I am looking for advice/ assistance with establishing the possible relation if any between Annie Wilcox and William and Mary Ann Willcox

Annie Wilcox was born approx 1862, apparently Fulham according to cenus -no birth record found. She married on 26/05/1879 at St Pauls, Hammersmith to Henry Machell. On marriage certificate she lists her Father as John Wilcox a Wheelwright -I have never found him. It also lists her address as 2 Britannia Court, and the Hammersmith rate book lists Mary Ann Willcox (widow) as the occupier of 2 Britannia Court in 1881 and her husband William Willcox is listed in 1871 Cenus living here with wife and family.

I am left trying to work out what relationship Annie Wilcox had to Mary Ann and William Willcox with whom she and her future husband were living with at the time of the marriage?

One thing that is puzzling me is that I can not find William and Mary Ann Willcox before 1871 cenus -even though married 1851 and had children in 1852, 1855 and 1857 in Hammersmith, but then not again until 1863, 1866 and 1868 Any suggestions greatly received.

Thanks

Having troubling adding -so editing with extra info -yes witnesses Eliza Wilcox and William Reid.

Have birth certificate of Ann Maria Wilcox and her Father is James George Willcox -different still!!

ANNIE -DIED 27/11/1949 AGE 87 YEARS OLD REGISTERED BY DAUGHTER.

WHAT IS GOING ON IT WILL NOT LET ME ADD OR REPLY!! SO FRUSTRATRING- thank you Jan for trying -not had baptism look ups I am told there were 7 churches in Fulham and Hammersmith in existance around that time, but unfortunately not been able to travel to London to do the research in local archive Joanna

Just in case:

Births Mar 1862 (>99%)
WILCOX Ann Maria Kensington 1a 152

Do you have witnesses names? By the way, the same address for Annie and her husband doesn't mean they were both living there. People often put this, made it simpler re. marriage banns.

Finally able to reply -I was not being rude -just would not let me -reported to customer services and now working.

Thank you Jan, Barbara, Julie, Moody Blue and Mary for all the suggestions.

Ann Maria Wilcox is defintely ruled out.

Ok I dont have Annie living with William and Mary Ann Willcox in 1871 cenus or 1881 cenus. But Mary Ann and William lived at 2 Britannia Court, Hammersmith on both cenuses -it was this address which was given as residence of both Annie Wilcox and Henry Machell in 1879 when they got married. But I can not find William and wife Mary Ann in 1861 cenus, why is this?

Had not given thought that Annie could be Mary Ann Wilcox -but definitely possibly.

Was thinking that perhaps William was Annie's Uncle -and if could find William then may be their would be a brother John, but can not find him further back then 1871 cenus.

Thanks everyone for assistance and patience

Mary Ann Willcox is a widower in 1881 cenus -so William died between 1871 and 1881 cenus -so dont think death is right

But 1841 cenus is looking promising -but no John Wilcox with him!!

Thanks

Is this the one who baptised Mary Ann in 1865, they probably called her Annie to stop confusion between her mum having same name.

Yeah I believe that to be the correct death record.

Maryb

That looks great -but how on earth would I be able to prove that it was the correct family -as she is not living with them in 1871 or 1881 cenus. Makes sense about Annie -but again it is just an assumption. Will ponder this

Thanks
