Thank you Victoria and Kim- you work late! (Or perhaps you are both in a different time zone!)
I didnt have the baptism but I found the 1911 census with Anna in Ealing which does look like it could be her.I didnt have the burial of Thomas senior so thankyou once again for that one. A great job from everyone !

Sorry- got called away on a Mums Taxi run! Just got back. I was thinking while driving may be the sculp was the enumerator thinking he was a sculptor because of the artist bit but then changed his mind!So all is decided -- a dramatic artist he was ! Just need to find him in 1901 now! The quest goes on! Many thanks

jax

jax Report 20 May 2010 21:44

Dramatic looks right maybe now some sort of actor, maybe he said artist so enumerator thought sculptor or painter then crossed it out when corrected

Dea

Dea Report 20 May 2010 21:35

Jax,

You are not convinced !! - I am also not 'quite' convinced !!

That's what it looks like to me but I do not understand the crossed out 'sculp' - which suggests 'sculpter' ?? - This does not add up.

What are your thoughts?

I cant keep up with you all. Thank you so much. I saw the 'sculp' as well but cant work out what that means either!
Sue is right the enumerator has horrible hand writing- you would think they would have to have beautiful writing for that job! Many thanks Teeny

jax

jax Report 20 May 2010 21:11

ummm yeah Dramatic anyway if you stare at it long enough

Teeny

Teeny Report 20 May 2010 21:08

Wow everybody thankyou! Im beginning to think it is a D and Dea is right with 'Dramatic artist' considering he was a singing artist in 1881.
Thank you for the marriage, I didnt expect that ,it was a nice surprise as I havnt got his marriage. It looks right to me!!

 Sue In Yorkshire.

Sue In Yorkshire. Report 20 May 2010 21:07

Well I have studied the occupation for the last 20 mins and it looks like Dramatic artist to me and then Sculp has been wrote next to it.

The enumerator had horrible writing.

Gwyn in Kent Report 20 May 2010 21:02

Someone has added 'Sculp' ..and crossed it through,

but could the other bit say Dramatic artist...?

Looks more like a B at the beginning, if you view each letter, but I've tried to interpret the whole note in order to make sense.

Sorry, can't read it, but is this his marriage? says both he and his father are 'Gentlemen' whilst Anna's father is a banker.

Can anyone help me decipher what it says on 1891 census for a Thomas Ryder b 1859 Dalston London. He is living at 6, Laura Place Hackney but I cant for the life of me work out his occupation. He is a' artist singing ' in 1881 and I cant find him in 1901. I found it easier to type in his father first-Thomas Ryder b1815 London. The transcript just says ?for his occupation but there is definitely something written down on the actual image. Would love to know if anyone has any ideas!! Thank you
