And his father's name?

Obviously Docker and Dock Labourer are similar enough occupations

Witnesses to Harry's marriage?

Re; Death. It was recorded as Henry in Havering, Essex. I have no middle name for him, nor even know if he had one.

On the marriage certificate it lists father Occu. as 'Docker'

Sorry, I lost my own thread/ question.

Re; the 1911 census; HOWARD HARRY M 1905 6 Poplar London

That is the one i found, due to the fact that my mother remembers an Ada being related to Harry.
Also Harry/Henry was born 21st Dec 1904, but was not registered till 1st quarter of 1905, in Poplar.

Regarding the 1901 Census above, That is the one i was on about also.
The address is different on both Census though, along with Thomas' occupation (1901 Gas Stoker. 1911 Dock Labourer).

IF the death I posted is correct - it's HENRY

Name on death cert only relies on person doing the informing.
Could well have only known him as Harry

Births Dec 1877

This birth would fit with 1911, but I would have thought that his death would have been registered under his birth name

Who did he marry?

The marriage cert might be your most reliable document, as it should include the name and occupation of his father

Is this the 1911 you have found and think to be him?

Is this the 1901 to which you refer?

Name: Ada Howard
Age: 23
Estimated birth year: abt 1878
Relation: Wife
Spouse's name: Thomas
Gender: Female
Where born: Custom House, Essex, England

Civil parish: West Ham
Ecclesiastical parish: St Luke
County/Island: Essex
Country: England

Registration district: West Ham
Sub-registration district: Canning Town
ED, institution, or vessel: 21

Household schedule number: 198
Household Members: Name Age
Thomas Howard 25 born Middlesex - not known
Ada Howard 23
John Howard 3
Ada Howard 10 months

Children born Custom House, Essex

Is Thomas's occupation in 1911 the same as in 1901?

What about the address?

Ages on censuses can't be relied on 100% - they didn't make such a hooha about them in those days as is the case today

Where does it say Ada was born on the censuses ?

To be sure of the man's parentage, you need his birth cert

Daniel

Daniel Report 18 May 2010 21:37

My great grandfather Harry/Henry (known as both) HOWARD 1904-1982.
I have located a 1911 census that names his parents as Thomas Howard (1879 - ) and Ada (1881 - )
(A marriage and Banns record names her as Ada Tyler)

However, on the 1901 census it lists Thomas as born 1876 and Ada as born 1878.
Yet this is the only 1901 census i can find for there names and matching area (Canning town, London)

The 1911 Census lists the children, and one child as Ada, born 1903.
Yet on the 1901 Census it lists her as born in 1900.

Also, Thomas and Ada were possibly married in 1900.

Is anybody able to shed any light on this? Thank you in advance
