Thankyou for that info. I only had two children, and his age was only a guestimate. I dont have Ancestry so have to rely on the local reg office.

A tree on Ancestry says he was born abt. 1785, Newberry, Berkshire, married Rachel Mouldey 2 July, 1810, St. Nicholas, Newberry and had 5 children.
It says his mother was Susanna Russell who married William Wright in 1810.
I don't place too much faith in other people's trees.

I haven't got a death date for William snr,or Rachel and so far I've not found them in any censuses. his name is very common in this area.

Can you tell us how you know his approx date of birth, or is that a guess? You have his marriage to Rachel Mouldey from a parish record?

And as I asked at the beginning, do you have him in a census? I can't see him or Rachel, but maybe you have found them -- or they may well have been deceased by 1841, of course.

Yes they are his sons. Son William went on to marry Sarah Hildreth in Cookham.
I am trying to find where he came from and his parents if possible

We have 2 threads about this guy .... Arrgghhhh !

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 16 May 2010 22:43

that's odd too - Basildon is in Essex!!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 16 May 2010 22:42

Yup, and I looked at a 1788 birth in Basildon, Berkshire, in the IGI -- but that seems to be a separate person, in the censuses. In 1841, married to Mary, in St Helen, with daughter Sophia, 15, whose 1821 baptism in the IGI shows as father William, mother Mary.

Did he happen to marry twice?

(Editing changes the content of the thread -- but not the way it shows up on the board!)

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 16 May 2010 22:39

Newbury is Berkshire

strange this - before you open the thread it says 1890 but when you open it, it says 1790!!! spooky!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 16 May 2010 22:36

Just to clarify first - he was born 1790, not 1890?

heh, you proofread. ;)

You've looked in the IGI and at FreeBMD? (Oops, I meant FreeREG.) It's his parents you are looking for?

Is he in a census, and does it state a place of birth? I'm not seeing him with Rachel ...
