I am trying to find some information of the above family. This man Mr Wylds was the guardian of a Mr George Clapton Rayner . Mr Rayner went to the Royal School in Colchester and after that I have no trace. I have been led to believe that this Mr Wylds acted as his guardian. The Solcitors of Holmes and Hill Brocking Road.Braintree seem to be involved and the clerk's name was Mr Makin.
Mr Wylds lived at ''Chantry'' Braintree but have no other information. Can anyone help

If George had a guardian then that would probably cease when he married or reached 21 whichever was the sooner

Hi Shirleyl
George was 24 when he married in 1924n but his father Frank died in 1923 its what happened to him when he left school and where did the guardian come from as his father would have been still alive.Very curious

I'm not quite sure I am 'talking sense' here but I have it in the back of my mind that if a person is left some money or property etc in a will and is too young to 'manage' it, a 'Guardian' would be appointed to deal with things until the person who was to receive such valuables came of age?

Could that be the case here perhaps?

Hi Dea
Thanks for the information. Thats sound very possible his father Frank is listed on the 1901 census as 'retired farmer' at the age of 34 although he did not die until he was 56 so perhaps he was ill and left the farm to George who would only be a young lad. Thanks for thoughts. I am trying to see if the solicitors would have some old records.

Dea

Dea Report 30 Apr 2010 15:19

It could well have been a rich relative?

The school he attended sounds like it could have been very expensive, the relative could have provided for his education also , maybe being paid for from the money or preperty which was bequethed? This would need someone to 'manage' the money and pay the school etc.

Just a thought.

I would try looking for a Will?

Ann

You can get a copy of a will here for £5 which includes the search they will undertake for you

If there is no will to be found you will not recieve a refund, but the cost is very little, it's got to be worth a go!
