CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 23 Apr 2010 10:50

Hi guys & gals,

Have abit of a conundrum. Looking for the marriage of a Henry R Couling.

I have been looking, and the answer is this:

Name: Henry R Couling
Spouse Surname: Drew Or Fallan
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1917
Registration district: Reading
Registration county (inferred): Berkshire
Volume Number: 2c
Page Number: 975

Thing is...which is it......?.....Drew or Fallan?

Henry was born in Lambourne, Berkshire, in 1884,
and was living with his siter Sarah Ann at 20 Wykeham Road, Reading, Berkshire, England in 1911.

Did Sarah pass away...or did he just get married and move out?...but to who.?

And idea would be most helpful.

He is my grt grt grt uncle.

Paul

if that is how it is listed , then she presumably went by both names, or are there two seperate girls?

Hi Minnie...my great grandmothers name was Minnie... :-)

So...name was Drew in 1911...but Fallan in 1917 when she married?...

Flick

Flick Report 23 Apr 2010 11:40

Two surnames for a female on the index usually (not always) implies a previous marriage.

The cert would confirm.

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 23 Apr 2010 11:42

Ah...so Fallan might have been her maiden name before she named a Drew..then used her maiden name when she married Henry?...

Penny Report 23 Apr 2010 11:43

I think the 2 year old in 1911 is actually a SHEILA.

her birth cert might hold some clues

DREW Shelia Bristol 6a 56 June Qtr 1909

Penny

Penny Report 23 Apr 2010 11:47

One senario is that she had a child by Mr Drew - Sheila- assumed the name Drew for for respectability, never actually married him, so had to register both when she maried- actual and asumed name

Sheila's birth cert will prob hold the clue

Well Budgie Rustler...interesting theory.

It just seems rather strange she registered under 2 different names....
Got a few mysteries in my family...
meant to have an aunt killed by a v1 in ww2.....but no sign of her..and a illegitimate child of my grandmother with GI in ww2...but there maybe something in that one as the child has a name.. Colin ..but taken back to US with the GI.

Hi Barbara,

Sorry not replied...got attention taken else where..you know how it is.

I have seen that census.....was thinking it meant Henry was Sarah's (wife) step son..and a child by Richard from another women....controversial?

Emily being my grt grt grandmother..Married William Thomas May in 1893 Reading.

So your saying Henry could be Sarah's son (daughter)?
So whos the father?....

I have Henry set as Sarahs brother right now....as it doesnt say who's his mother..assuming the head women (wife) was his mother.

More mystery
:)

Hi Paul

All I am saying is that Henry MAYBE Sarah's SON ( it does say son on 1911 census which I have copied out for you on previous page)

You have asked

Sorry, Paul, choose who is Mum was I really couldn't tell you who his Father was --I wasn't there :-) ( I hope you take that as a little joke, Paul, as it was meant to be --I will delete it if it upsets you )

However if you would like to know who his Mum was this looks like his birth index to send for his birth cert.

Births Dec (quarter) 1884

COULING Henry Richard

Best wishes

Cheers Barbara. :)

No probs....I can take a joke ..hehehe.
One of my certs has turned up..should be 5..only got 1 in the post.

Its of the marriage of my grt grt grandfather ....I think....on my fathers side.

I just can't say anything for sure on my fathers side...I just can't confirm anything ..even with certs....!!.Very frustarting.

Nothings seems simple in my tree..always somethings to throw doubt on it..no matter what I buy and research.....

Doesn't help that most of my family are dead..including aunts & uncles...so no-one to ask.

Oh well...

Cheers! Barbara
