Yes, this is correct I have his marraige and birth certificates, he is my great grandfather but i am having terrible trouble with his mother and father as you can see.
the biggest problem I have is there marraige details, as I know from Stephens birth certicate and Hannah's his sister that his mother's maiden name was Drummond, but I cannot find a marriage between george Martin or Mary Ann Drummond, I can find a Mary Ann Drummey marring a George Martin but having both birth certs it does not make sense, hence the reason for the 1911 census to see if they are still living and if it was recorded their time married!

MaureeninNY

MaureeninNY Report 19 Apr 2010 17:25

Yes,I do see how hard they are to spot. George is obviously deceased by 1911,though.

i only received Hannah certificate today and was hoping that it would say her mother's maiden name was Drummey, would have made my research so much easier!!, I am not really getting anywhere with this side of the family and I do appreciate all the help I get!

Lynn

On the marriage register for George & Mary Ann Drummey.
It says that Georges father was Alfred Martin.
have you traced George back 1871 census and before to see if Georges father was Alfred and perhaps the Drummeys became the Drummonds.

I have a case in my own tree where the Warrens became the Warreners.

Lynn Report 19 Apr 2010 18:10

I am not sure, but if it does mean 16 years married then it cannot be her as her first born was in 1874 and Hannah's was born in 1878 and it states the mothers maiden name as drummond so she would have been married! I looking for a time of marriage for at least 35 years or more!

Lynn

Lynn Report 19 Apr 2010 18:24

yes - this is the one I found which has caused all the confusion, I though it was a typo but on the original cert for george and Mary Ann her father is stated as Nicholas Drummey the signatures are sighned as Drummey!! but the date would be about right and the area at time of marriage is bermondsey, again about right!! so not sure about this marriage!!

Lynn

Lynn Report 19 Apr 2010 18:28

Another thing is that I have just looked at George's signature on that marriage certificate and he as signed it. On Stephens Birth certificate his father George has marked it as a cross as the mark of George Martin. So that means he could not write!! very confusing!

Lynn

Lynn Report 19 Apr 2010 19:12

Nicholas was a Labourer and mary and george were living in Bermondsey, no actual address!

Lynn

Lynn Report 19 Apr 2010 19:49

On Stephens birth cert it states general labourer and on georges marriage cert is states labourer and on Stephens marriage cert is states george's occupation as labourer.

Lynn

Lynn Report 19 Apr 2010 19:50

this is correct - I do have a copy of this census for 1911, its mary I cannot find, maybe she is deceased! I still cannot find them on a 1901 census!
