Amy Bacon & Thomas Clarkes Baptism in Brimington D

Hi

I was hoping someone might be able to locate the baptisms for a couple of my relatives who were born in Brimington.
Thomas Clarke was the son of Joseph and Jane and he was born circa 1811. Amy Bacon was born circa 1812. I cannot seem to find their baptisms anywhere. I looked through Chesterfield St Marys records and couldn't find them and Brimington's records don't seem to start that early

Thanks

Derek

Thanks for taking to time to look for me but i don't think these are mine. Both Thomas and Amy were born in Brimington in Derbyshire, they married in Chesterfield in the early 1830's.

Thanks again

Found this one on Family Search.

13.4.1812,father William Bacon, mother Elizabeth Amos, Chesterfield

Less likely,6.10.1808 Duckmanton,Father Samuel Bacon, mother Elizabeth Cantrel..

As you know, neither more than 2 miles from Brim.

Can't find owt for Thomas re baptism,is that him and Amey in Dronfield in 1851 with 7 offspring??

We might be related yet, I was brought up at Brim, and some of my Blackwell rellies lived in Dronfield at the same time..ish.

Derek,I forgot to say that the Chesterfield Baptism for was for I think , Ann not Amy,but it might be a mis whatever you call it.

Edit, have just rechecked,it is for Ann Bacon.

There is also another for Hannah Bacon,Chesterfield,16 march 1810,father Samuel, mother guess what,Elizabeth?

I thought i'd have another go at trying to find the baptism for Amy and Thomas but still without any luck.
It's stange that both their baptisms are missing. I looked up the Brimington baptism record and it looks like they start from 1813 which is after they are born.
I know Thomas younger brother and sisters were baptized in Brimington but i would have thought Chesterfield & Staveley would have been the next place to look for their baptisms before 1813, but can't find them.

Very confusing

Hello Derek....itsthe other Derek (Derbyshire Parish records).....you're right about the Brimington Parish records..they start at 1813..which is very late in my experience..what this usually means is that there is another Parish very close where earlier baptisms took place

As Nina rightly says these Chesterfield parishes are really stacked in and close......so anyone born in brimington before 1813 would have been baptised elsewhere....question is..where??

I can tell you that JANE ASHMORE wife of Joseph (Married 04.04.1833 St Mary's Chesterfield) actually came from Tibshelf.if thats any help born 1787 died Brimington 1859....

You may know that I have stacks of Derbyshire Records..but Chesterfield is my weak spot.....will have a look around for you.I have brimington and Stavely and Clay Cross Records..

Hi, i do already have his parents marriage thanks. It's just Thomas's baptism that alluding me.
I know the freereg site have done a few transcriptions from Chesterfield but i've had no luck there. It just seems strange why i can't find either Thomas or Amy's baptism.

Derek........Bear in mind that Chesterfield is also a registration District as well as a series of parishes....like bakewell..So BMD's will record the registration District rather than the place of baptism.........so the Baptisms of both your peeps may be in any local parish..and there are many of them......Brimington itself, althought it has a Church and its own Parish records..is not a parish.....or at least it wasn't in 1850..was a Township in the Parish of Chesterfield............
I have the Tibshelf Records and can confirm the baptism of Jane Ashmore 1788..but no Clarke or bacon......

I have searched high and low..and in my experience I suggest that they were Non-conformist and we should be looking on NC records...

Thomas and AMY were in Brimington after their marriage because Brimington records their first two children 1833 and 1835

The problem i have with Thomas maybe being NC is that after 1813 when the Brimington records become available Joseph and Jane baptize some of Thomas's brothers and sister at the parish church.
Also both Thomas and Amy are alive on the 1851 census and they both state that they were born in Brimington (they where living in Dronfield).
Thomas doesn't die until 1875 and on all census he puts Brimington as his place of birth.

It's a good brickwall this one!!!

I know this seems a little far out but have you tried the whittington church? Some of the records are burnt but I've found some of mine travelling to that one. I've found some of my Barrow Hill and Staveley people in Whittington, and even in Brampton and old Brampton and Newbold.
Have you tried the Holy Trinity in Chesterfield?

There were also a lot of Methodists in Brimington and there are some of the records at the Matlock office.

Ok.......go to the 1861 Census for Thomas Clarke of Brimington 1808..
you will find his wife JEMIMA......also 1808....then with a bit of lateral thinking suppose that AMY is a shortened version of Jemima.....then go looking for Jemima Bacon..rather than Amy Bacon..and you will find her baptised Staveley Chesterfield 28.08.1808..daughter of John and Anne....
..and..as i have said..BORN in Brimington does not mean BAPTISED in Brimington....there were no baptisms at brimington before 1813.many of the earlier Brimington folk were baptised at Staveley.

Derek.

The Thomas and Jemima Clarke are not my ancestors. By 1861 Amy had died in Dronfield (in 1858). Thomas Clarke (Clark on the census) is living in Dronfield with his children.
My Thomas was born circa 1811. I have his burial in Dronfield which shows his age.
As you pointed out there is another Thomas Clarke born in Brimington in 1808 who again as no baptism record!

Very Strange
