I'm stuck on Joseph Foss my gt grandfather. b. abt 1870

Married to Phoebe Gay b. 1879

They had two children - Alice Theresa Foss b.1900 - Francis John Foss b. 1899 both born in Paddington show up on 1911 census with Mum Phoebe, but no Joseph.

I only have Phoebe living with stepfather George Scott in 1891(Kent).1901 (Marylebone).1911(Fulham) census - no sign of Joseph???

No I was never sure Phoebe was the mother - except for they were listed as step grandchildren of George Scott/1911 census.

So, Frances was a widow, Phoebe, her sister took her kids Francis and Alice - probably because of financial reasons?

Joseph? Where did you find that it said HE was a widower? (did I read that right?)

The info we have now, has him up until 1911 Census in Westminster .

only marriage i can find is a john foss born 1860
to emma elizabeth pratt in 1886
his father is francis so ties up ummmm

The original transcript of the marriage of Joseph to Mary Frances says he was a widower when he married in 1898.

In the 1911 census it says that Mary Frances was a widow.
The last record of Joseph is in 1901 census.
Have not found Joseph's death, although there is a possible in 1905 in Hendon.

Mary Frances is a waitress in 1911 and that probably explains why her children are living with her stepfather and sister.

The child William b. 1889 is from Joseph's first marriage to an Emma.
