Hi Sarah,

Looking at the marriage, Thomas' father was also Thomas, a tailor. William Gleddon is a witness and Thomas jnr was a widower.
Maybe these baptisms are relevant?

I have Elizabeth in 1881---she married Joseph Miles in 1872 and on the 1881 census they are in Hampstead, London, England with 5 children and her apparently widowed mother Mary Gliddon. Her father Thomas Gliddon must have died between 1871 and 1881.

Not sure where her OR her sister were on the 1871 census....as her parents are in Knackersknowle,Devon, Plympton, England with only their 1 yr old grandson George Hollins b. about 1870 in Devonport. I don't know if this is their daughter Ellens child?? Can't locate a marriage record for her....

There is an eleven year old George listed with Elizabeth and her husband on the 1881, but he is listed as a Miles---don't know if this the same George (Hollins) who was with grandparents and adopted by stepdad? Joseph Miles----or if this could be Elizabeth's nephew and they adopted him....need info on Ellen Gliddon...born about 1854.

I know there are LOTS of Gliddons in Tavistock, Devon 1841 and 1851----just not sure where Thomas fits in because he changed his age on every census----in 1851 shows 38, 1861 shows 41 and 1871 shows 49---giving date of birth as 1813 or 1820 or 1822----???

There are 3 families there in 1861 Thomas's (age 41) as well as Samuel Gliddon age 38 family and Sarah (widow) age 69--discovered her husband's name was John Gliddon. She has 3 sons still at home John (Jr?) age 40 David age 26 and Thomas age 23---also discovered in previous census that Samuel is her son-----BUT would she have 2 sons named Thomas??

Anyway if any of you folks can help me untangle this mess would really appreciate it.

It could be........... I can't find them in the 1841 census
...they are in the 1851 Tavistock,Devon,Buckland, England census as

Mary Ann Gliddon 27 b. Launcellos, Cornwall, Eng

No children on that one. (Elizabeth and sister Ellen are with them on the 1861....same location) I would say on the 1841 their ages should be 28 and 17 but they listed their ages (dob) different on every census so may not be accurate. They could still be in Cornwall (and not married) in 1841 since both say on the census they were born there.

Anyway I have to pop out for a bit, will be back later and check responses......thanks again,

I have Elizabeth's birth in Sep 1852 on an index record but the index doesn't give her mother's maiden name. She is the daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann_?____ Gliddon. Need mom's maiden name----1851 and 1861 says her mom was born in Launcelos, Cornwall, England.
