Yes I have seen the pic on Ancestry. I think a relative from Oz has put that on. Kate Helena Murgatroyd (nee Witts) is my Great Grandmother. Frederick was my Grandfather. Have been trying for some time to find the whereabouts of Harry Murgatroyd, my Grandfather. I have heard that he may have remarried after disappearing

In 1901 I think James is a gas worker, which would match with 1911. I wouldn't concern my self with the slight difference in spelling in itself - our ancestors' spelling could be quite creative! (My grandmother Emily's father interestingly spelt her name as Elmney for example!).

There is a picture on Ancestry of Kate Helena Witt.

There only seems to be one Harry on the army records and his next of kin is wife Maria Smith. 11 Carrington St Bradford. This one was in 52nd Batt. MGC = Machine Gun Corps.

Married in a Reg Office Manor Row Bradford 21 Nov 1908
So this is'nt him.
His children are Sydney May 9 1909 and Phyllis Jun 9 1915

This could be Harry even though the surname spelling is different. It certainly fits with the story of him going AWOL from his Leeds home.
I wonder if I could ask you if you know how I could go about looking for him in Army records?

Harry was listed as born in Pudsey and his parents were James Murgatroyd b.1849 and Martha Broadbent b. 1849

I will have another look tomorrow and list more info if needed.

I'm not sure where Harry went either.
A family story tells of him being in the army and "disappearing" for a while. He may have even remarried. Last I know is in the 1901 census when he was at home in Pudsey as a Fam Carter
I'm afraid I don't know any more than this
