You will need to buy the marriage cert from here.

www.gro.gov.uk

They cost £7 each until 6th April and then go up to £9.25p.

This is the only OFFICIAL Gov site, anywhere else will rip you off by charging at least double.

On the order form where it asks if the GRO refs are known tick the "yes"box.

You will need to reg first.

All the refs you need have been given by me and Michael.

Without it you have little chance of tracing your Jones side back.

Have you seen the marriage certificate or just an online record?

Kim

Kim Report 30 Mar 2010 15:39

Hi Michael,

Help!!! I took your advice & looked at the marriage records for Harry & Jane but it doesn't give their parents names. I've hit a brick wall. Would value your input.
Kind Regards

Kim

Hi Marion,
Thanks for that, Margaret is my mom's name, but her aunt was also called Margaret Hipkiss, so the name probably comes from a distant relative. New to this & don't know much about the Hipkisses. Let me know if you find anything more & I will do the same.

Kind Regards

Hi Kim.
I have Hipkisses in my tree, but much further back than you are looking.
They appear to have lived in the Harborne/Smethwick area.
I have a Margaret Hipkiss b 1750 who married Isaac Parker 1773 Harborne & became my 4x g grandmother,
If you need any info when you get further back, just get in touch.
Might be worth you looking at the Parish records for St Peter Harborne. They were a very large family.

All his ww1 records are available on Ancestry.

British Army WWI Service Records, 1914-1920 about Harry Hipkiss
Name: Harry Hipkiss
Estimated birth year: abt 1893
Age at Enlistment: 23
Residence: 1 House 26 Court Church Lane, Aston Birmingham
Document Year: 1916
Regimental Number: 27406
Regiment Name: Gloucestershire Dept
Number of Images: 37

This one gives his father as Thomas Hipkiss of 22 Sandy Lanes.

Another child also
Arthur Samuel born 25 /10 /1915

But you will still need that marriage for Jane Jones father and her approx year of birth.

FannyByGaslight Report 29 Mar 2010 22:10

I would say this is "your"Harry/Henry on 1911 going on first sons name and Henry/Harrys fathers name.

But you do need his marriage cert to confirm it.

This cert would give you both fathers.

Marriages Sep 1913 -------------

Marriages Sep 1913
Hipkiss Harry Jones Aston 6d 755
Jones Jane E Hipkiss Aston 6d 755

The marriage.
You will need this for their fathers names and occupations, especially the Jones side I would think.

I will see if I can find a likely Harry Hipkiss on 1911.

Trying to find ancestors of my grandfather Frederick James Hipkiss (known as Jim) born Aug 1919 & died 17 May 1996, his father was called Harry Hipkiss & his mother was was Jane Elizabeth Jones, they were both born, lived & died in the Birmingham West Midlands area, would have been known as Birmingham Warwickshire back then. Jim was married twice, 1st to my nan Margaret Collins they had my mom also Margaret Hipkiss, later he married Lilian Clover they had Pamela & Robert. I would like to go back further, if anyone knows anything please let me know.
Kind regards
