JOHN COPSON

Joseph Copson is confirmed as being married in May 1891. Certificate shows that Joseph was 24 years old, his residence was Bitterswell, (Leicestershire) and that his father's name was John.

I can find no reference to John's marriage.

If joseph was 24 at the time of marriage it gives him a birth date of c1867.Free BMD shows a Joseph Copson 's birth being registered in December 1866 at Lutterworth GRO No 7a 7

I am assuming that John would have been around the same age as Joseph when he was married. which gives him a birth date of c1847.

Free BMD shows a birth for a Johh Copson registered at Brixworth in March 1844. GRO No 15 250

I am seeking further information on a) John's marriage, and b) His actual birth.

Any information that would ease my aching head woulkd be gratefully accepted.

I know that I could obtain the necessary certificates but as I have already spent close on £30.00 pounds so far I'm hoping that someone will give my pocket a rest

Your "mistake" was in assuming Joseph was the first child of a young man, when in fact he was the youngest of a middle aged man.

Always try to find the family together on the censuses prior to marriage.

You can also check that the occupation of the father on marriage ties in with the census, though people did change their occupations.

To all those who gave me such valuable assistance.

As promised, As I left the local Morrisons on Wednesday I was confronted by an elderly man standing in the rain and bitter cold with a collection box for A Childrens Cancer Charirty. I duly placed £7 in his box ,much to his suprise and pleasure, with an explanation as to why.

I hope to be able to do the same again in due course as I have another headache coming on with another branch of the same tree.

When I told my commander Aulus Plautius what I had done ,he said 'good. now go and sort out the Durototriges. (a little bit of history).
