Good Morning everyone. All thanks to Flick and her assumptions, i have managed to do reasonably well with some members of this family, but some have me absolutley stumped! I am just going round and round in circles now so would appreciate some more help please.....
First of all, in the 1861 census for Jasper Chandler (Still cant find his marriage to Mary Ann!) there is a Grandaughter Ellen Chandler age 1 born Hants North Stoneham. She appears again as Grandaughter in the 1871 census as Ellen Smith age 11 born Hants Northend. If Ellen is indeed a Smith, i think the two possible mothers, going by their ages are Mary, who appears in the 1841 census that Flick put on this thread but i can find nothing about her after 1841 as i have no idea where she was born. And the other is Eliza but i am not able to find a marriage for her.

Hi Flick, i have been at it all morning and to be honest, these dead people are driving me nuts! I have to take a break now because the living people in my family, very selfishly, require feeding! I am sure i will be back to you on this one. Thankyou for now Flick, Sue. P.S. I love dead people. x

Birth:
Christening: 12 MAR 1809 St Marys, Watford, Hertford, England

Father: WILLIAM CHANDLER
Mother: ANNE

Batch No.: C073051

I've checked the image of 1851 census - there is a definite error.

His birth is recorded as Hants - Watford.

His wife's is 'do' Buntingford.

Well, Buntingford and Watford are HERTS - so the above baptism is definitely Sarah's father

I've only found one Jasper in 1841 - not born in Middx - which would fit with 1851, which states that he was born in Walford, Hants

His occ is Male Servant, but that isn't necessarily significant

Let's hope the father is called Jasper - not too many of them !

The one I posted for 1851 was a Railway Porter - may help to pinpoint him for you

Thats a good one Flick, four of Sarahs children have the same names as her siblings, i shall bare that one in mind. Right i best order the marriage cert before they charge me another couple of quid!! Thankyou for your time, Sue.

PricklyHolly Report 27 Mar 2010 15:32

Hello Flick, the marriage was Winchester Hampshire V 2c P 158. Yes i know what you mean about the marriage cert, i know it wont give me her place of birth but i will just have to hope that her fathers name can give me a clue.

The best I can offer is the suggestion that you purchase her marriage cert, to find out about her father

Where was the marriage?

PricklyHolly Report 27 Mar 2010 15:24

Hello everyone, i thought i would spent a quiet afternoon reseaching my tree but i am at the point of self harming over here! Sarah Chandler married Alfred Emery in Dec 1858. Iam trying to find where exactly she was born so that i can trace her family. Her place of residence between 1861 and 1901 is Botley Hampshire. The problem i have is the 1861 states she was born- London England the 1871- Bishopstoke Hampshire the 1881- London Middlesex the 1891- Richmond Surrey and the 1901- London England! I am sure you will understand my frustration! If anyone has a glass ball, i would be very grateful for any help if possible. If not please may i borrow your ball to hit myself over the head! Thanyou for your time, Sue
