I never dismiss anything that I think may be even slightly relevant until I have proof that it isn't what I'm looking for. I did that too often when I started this research lark and found I had to do lots work twice over.
The only thing that's bothering me is the fact that Claire says the James Robison's (1873) father was a policeman?

He probably just didn't want to admit to the age difference - and they say women are vain!!

His occupation was postman on the marriage certificate to grace. His age at this time was 34.
i have just found his death certificate and he was actually born in 1867 - not 1873 like it states on his marriage certificate.
The date of marriage for james and mary was march 1852.
Don't know why there is a different age on the marriage certificate for james and Grace??

May not be him but I'll leave it on as father does change occupation from census to census and it's the only one that stands out with father James and mother Mary.

What was James's occupation on his marriage certificate to Grace please? Have you calculated his year of birth from the marriage certificate? Does it match the calculated year of birth from his death certificate?

Yes that's definitely the same Grace as i know her mother was ann.
I've been looking on scotlands people and have found James Robisons' b(1873) parents, James (who was a policeman) and Mary Brown.

Later births are indexed and as you have an area and not too common surname it may be possible to pick out possible siblings. I'm trying to trace James Robison b(1906) In old luce, Wigtown, Scotland. His parents were james robison b (1873) and Grace Wilson b (1876) but don't know if he had any siblings.

He was married to a jessie bell and they had 3 sons - James (1933) Robert (c1935) and Kenneth (c1946) All born in Dumfries, Scotland.
