William Mosford SKELLAND married my 3rd cousin twice removed Amy Anna Caroline HAWES on 15/6/1904 in Madras. So far I've identified two of their children, Frederick William Mosford S( born 28/3/1905 in India and christened at Pondicherry on 13/5/1905), and Marguerite Linda S (born 24/11/1906 in India and christened at Cannanore, India, on 16/12/1906.These good people do not appear in the 1911 Census of England and Wales, so we might deduce they were still in India then?
Does anyone who has contributed to this thread have access to incoming passenger lists (Ancestry.com) - this might tell use when the family returned to the UK.
The backgrounds of the photos may then be telling, first India then UK?
Guessing that the albums show the family of FWMS and MLS, and knowing(?) that the former had no issue, it may be that Marguerite Linda or her descendants (if any) might be interested (what happened to her>?). Or the HAWES family?
I have contact with several Living HAWES, who, as far as I know, were only aware that Amy Anna Caroline had married a chap called SKELLAND, and know nothing about where, when, who he was or their fates.

Derry Report 8 May 2010 14:56

Hi, many thanks for your previous messages re my step grandfathers family. i have now managed to find a few more details about him.
Frederick William Mosford Skelland born 28/03/1905 in Pondicherry, India. His father William Mosford (Engineering Asst), mother Amy Anna Caroline. He was an Electrical Engineer.
At some point after 1933 an address in Guildford crops up.
He was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1955 on the IOW and is buried there with my grandmother (nee Stringer/Hardwick)

I've three albums of photos dating around 1910-1950 of family members of we presume the Skelland family. We don't know who they are and as they are not blood relatives we like to return them to those who are as they could be important to them.

If anyone thinks they may be part of the family please drop me an e-mail.
Thanks Derry

Dear Derry,
I am now assuming the step-daughter is your Mother.

We have not yet pinned down Frederick Skelland's birth, which should be 1905, just wondering which of his names he was using.
Does not have to be William Mosford Skelland's (1870) son, could be a nephew.

BINSTEAD HILL FATALITY
INQUEST ON MOTOR CYCLIST ADJOURNED
Mr. Frederick William Mosford SKELLAND, aged 50, of Northview, Fishbourne-lane, Fishbourne, died at the Royal I.W. County Hospital on Friday week, two days after his motor cycle had been in collision with another motor cycle driven by Mr. B. YOUNG, of Roselle, Fishbourne-lane, Fishbourne.
