If you look at original image I can see why you thoght it said alone but that is where you need to check the enumerators handwriting. There are other capital M's on the page and they all match as in the M for Margaret in the same family.

Are you sure the correct name is not Allen or Allan?
There is a John Allen b 1881 Gujarat India living 1891 St Lawrence Kent with mother Rose 38 born India Sind, sister Rose 12 and brother John 10 and 2 servants and that John Allen is recorded as making several journeys from India to London 1916 to 1928

Someone has mistaken the M & OR in Moore for AL & ON to get Alone

The record which Lorraine found was obviously mistranscribed

The census posted matches all the information she gave (including the actual address) - apart from the child's surname

Am I missing something on this thread?

So are you looking for someone named John Alone? Or is John Moore the person you want? I'm confused!
Incidentally it makes it much clearer if you simply use capitals on people's names.

i have just done it again and his name is john alone
if you search the 1891 census with just the name john alone then this is the census that comes up it says
1891- john alone aged 10 b1881 scholar granddauson born india
i used the census on here to do the search but its hard to read the surname
