there are a couple of very burnt Service Documents but they don't tell you much more except he attested in Nov 1914 died in the Royal Berkshire Hospital on 10 Jan 1915

Sylvie

Sylvie Report 26 Feb 2010 16:44

Perhaps I should have stated that I have all of this but I didn't want to write a lengthy missive that no one would read...I have all censuses certs etc.
It is specifically the entry on forces reunited that I am interested in. It may be the only way I can find out why he was in Aylesbury when the rest of his company and family seemed to be in Norfolk!
Thank you all so much for trying

Looks like he died in Royal Berkshire Hospital. Is it possible the Aylesbury Cemetery is where they buried war casualties who die there?

RutlandBelle

RutlandBelle Report 26 Feb 2010 16:58

you will probably have to get his death cert

Deaths Mar 1915

Cockrill Charles 38 Aylesbury 3a 1485

the few records that there are don't indicate thta he served abroad

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 26 Feb 2010 17:00

His death is here. Why not order the certificate to find cause of death?

Deaths Mar 1915 (>99%)

Cockrill Charles 38 Aylesbury 3a 1485

Thank you all yet again BUT
I have all data - all certificates - all census records - all army records that are available.
This particular site may just tell me what his section of the army was doing in Aylesbury or if he was posted close to there and the royal bucks hospital.
It is specifically the record on forces reuinted that I need.
Sorry if I have not made that clear

So what was the cause of death on the death certificate? Was it war injury or illness?

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 26 Feb 2010 17:57

Forces Reunited never had an expensive membership. It is a bit like Friends Reunited. So not sure you would get the answer you are looking for on that site

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 26 Feb 2010 18:07

Why do you think that Forces Reunited has an entry for that name?

Sylvie

Sylvie Report 26 Feb 2010 18:25

There is a free search on Forces reunited and it gives name rank and the year of his death - 1915 so it is on there.
He died of Cellulitis of the leg - for those that might not knowm wellulitis is an infection of the tissues which would nowdays be treated with antibiotics so it couls have been a war wound or it could have been athletes foot!

GlitterBaby Report 26 Feb 2010 18:34

I also did a free search on Forces Reunited and got no results at all - spelling surname as Cockrill or Cockril.

Why would they show his year of death on a site that is for living people to contact each other

Jean try on this forum

http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php

you have to register but it is free and they are very helpful and knowledgeable. Just make sure you give them all your info including date, place and cause of death

good luck

Sylvie

Sylvie Report 26 Feb 2010 19:08

Thank you Rutland Belle but I have exhausted that - they were very helpful.
Glitter baby - there is a memorial section and it worked for me otherwise I wouldn't have asked someone to do it for me - you only have to put the name in.
I think I'll give up on here unless someone is a member and can PM me.
Thank you

are we talking about the same Forces Reunited site?

edit it is £4.99 a month sorry,

Sylvie

Sylvie Report 27 Feb 2010 10:47

Thanks everyone - I think I may have misinformed people as I thought one had to join up for at least 3 months rather than be able to do just one month. However, an email reply from the site put me straight!
I have now done it and got the record
I thank you all for your help

Have you tried googling the Norfolk Regiment? There are quite a few hits. Browsing through them may give you some information.
