I have recently been researching a Henry Jephcott and have found out what a lothario he was !! He married first (official) wife and had three sons but by 1901 was living with second 'wife' - no marriage discovered and had a further two children, but by 1912 he had formed a relationship with someone else and gone off to London with her and had another three children !! However, I was curious to see when he went to London an decided to look to try and see them on 1911 census. I did the free search and could find him and the two children he fathered and if I did it correctly, there looks as if there is yet another lady living with him. Could someone let me know who is in the household of Henry Jephcott b. 1857, Foleshill Coventry living Kings Norton on 1911 census. Children Doris and Frederick. The unofficial 'wife' with him in 1901 was Clara - referred to as Jephcott - but really called Clara Phipps. I am just dying of curiosity. Thanks. |

How could she be a sister if she's single and last name is Phipps? |

Thanks for that folks. It is most interesting. As to the description of 'sister' that does seem queer although on 1901 census Clara Phipps sister was a visitor to the house. The plot thickens. If 'Miss Phipps' is Clara's sister - where is Clara ? (who incidentally was 37 in 1901. Perhaps she was 'out of favour' and moved on !! He did not take his children with him to London but had a 'new' family down there !! |

Ah that explains why Clara's sister was living there then. What puzzles me is what happened to the children after he went off with Eunice Innis (29 yrs younger than him) and raised his new family, the first of whom was born BHam 1915, prior to the London move. By 1915 Doris would be about 18 so I suppose old enough to go her own way and Frederick would have been abt 16. Incidentally, I have just looked for a death of his official wife(Mary Jane b 1860) - who also lived in Birmingham, Edgbaston in 1901 but have failed to find one on freebmd 1901 - ???. I am assuming Henry is not telling porkies when he describes himself as widower - OR is he referring to Clara when he says that. I think I must let this rest, I am driving myself mad !! |
