The Sidney who married in 1905 seems to be Sidney ewart Wotton birth year 1887 on the 1911 with wife Elizabeth ? so not yours... which may make the 1912 marriage cert a better bet?

Your right, that is a 2! Which means he wasnt a pre wedding child, makes more sense I guess!

Still can't find him on the 1911 census though!

Kristina I have looked at the original image and Williams age is obscurred by a enumerators line...but sure it is 21 not 31 so that makes the birth below the right age.

Ah right hold on , did you get William C the sons birthdate from the 1901 census only ? because i have just noticed a discrepancy ! on the 1891 he is aged 11...which makes his birth around 1880 not 1870...

Rose: Apologies! Wasnt expecting them to have a child out of marriage, which it appears they did!

So my next step is to order marriage certificates for William (the dad) to get his dads name, plus one for William (the son) to see if thats him and get his spouses name.

I have 2 possible marriages for Sydney (1 in 1905 and 1 in 1912) and 3 possible marriages for James! Do I have to order all 3 certificates to find out the spouses name / check if its the right guy?

Also how would I go about finding out if these guys have children? Can I search by fathers name only?

Hi Kristina I haven't found them on the 1881 as yet, trying variations of the name.

If you order the marriage of the son then it will double check name and also father's occupation,

I'll see if i can find them mistranscribed.

I found the possible marriage for William (son) would I now need to order the certificate to confirm this?

I've searched for William Watton (the father) but have also had no luck finding anything in the previous census's.

There are a few William Wottons on the earlier census, but I dont know how I would confirm any of these are him? How would I go about doing this? Should I order his marriage certificate?
