The only other way to find out Grandmother's maiden name is to order the marriage certifcate to Harold Cross, since that will have her father's name and occupation on it.

You can do that over the internet here:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

You have to register first and have a credit/debit. Enter the Cross/Blissitt details you've found and make sure'Yes' is highlighted when asked if the GRO reference is known.

Each certifcate costs £7 the site is very easy to use and and secure.

There are a few possibilities.

Your mother's name, year and place of birth may narrow things down.

Good morning (for me) Joy, sorry for not getting back to you, but I had to sleep...

My grandmothers first name was, Florence M., her first marriage was to a Blissitt, but I don't know his first name, and therefore cannot search for him?
I have found her second marriage, and that was to Harold Cross, in 1917, in Nottingham-7b-758.....and I did know him.

I remember being told, that one of my Grandfathers, or maybe Great Grandfathers, died very young in an accident, but don't know if it was the Blissitt or Chamberlain side of the family?

Sorry for being so slow, regards Ann in OZ

Grandma's first name would help please.

anniebo Report 8 Feb 2010 14:53

Only know my grandmother's 1st married surname of Blissitt, no husbands christian name, so can't get any results.

I can get my Mums birth results on FreeBMD (I do know when she was born of course) , but it doesn't tell me her parents names?

If you could help again, would be grateful,
Thanks Ann

Will PM you since there's a good chance the possible children are still alive.

As for finding out your Grandmother's maiden name, her first marriage should reveal that if you know who she was married to and when.

Hi Joy,

The names are: Alfred R.W. Chamberlain, married to Ina Worrall-Grimsby 1943-7a 1508
and:
Herbert Chamberlain, married to Dorothy Wright-Grimsby 1949 3b-610

Any further results would be great, thanks Ann in OZ

Sorry to bother again, but how do I find grandmothers maiden name, when I only know her 1st and 2nd married names?

Have tried everything on FreeBMD, but nothing comes up for birth by putting either of her married names?

Help!!!!!!!!

FreeBMD only goes up to certain dates for each event, currently up to the 1930s. Anything after that requires full access to the records at Ancestry. I have that access and am willing to search if you have names to work with.

Thanks Joy and Jill, I had the births and marriages of Alfred and Herbert, but whenever I search for Children and Deaths on FreeBMD, there are no results for either men?

To search for children, do I put Husbands name and then spouse surname.....or is it in reverse, with Wife first?
I think I must be just a dumb blonde.....

Thanks for replies, Ann in OZ

The info is available on FreeBMD - which is free to use and very easy to use.

Could anyone please check records for,
Alfred Chamberlain b1914 in Grimsby, and
Herbert Chamberlain b1926 in Grimsby.

Also any Marriages/Children/Deaths of both?
I am hoping that they are 2 of 10, of my uncles and aunts?
Thanks Ann (nee Chamberlain)
