Thank you lancashireAnn, a most useful tip. 30 in 1847 tallies with her suggested birth year of 1813.
Yes, that 1881 is the one that helped clinch this family for me.

possible Jane which would make the age of 20 (rounded down) seem possible

if you use lancashirebmd.org.uk for lancashire deaths all those which are transcribed have the death age regardless of year of death

Okay found it 1851
Cock Jane 1839 Unknown Bradford, Bradford East End

Strange as I did check 1851 on Ancestry but nearest match was on Cocker 1838 but in a different area of Bradford

Frances

Frances Report 29 Jan 2010 12:25

GlitterBaby Report 29 Jan 2010 12:24

Which census - 1841 or 1851 etc ?

Frances

Frances Report 29 Jan 2010 12:20

It's from the G.R. single line census - halfway down the Home page. Where I do all my look ups!

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 29 Jan 2010 12:14

Sorry no idea on that one

Where did you see it?

Frances

Frances Report 29 Jan 2010 12:06

Thanks for the offer Maureen but Hannah isn't an ancestor, only a curiosity! It's the sleuthing addiction taking over....

By the way I did see

Cock Jane 1839 Unknown Bradford, Bradford East End

yesterday and, again there only seems to be one Jane Cock born in the West Riding so could I ask you to indulge me one more time to see if she has any connection.

Would you like the 1851 image?

Frances

Frances Report 29 Jan 2010 11:56

The only name like Clevershire in Lancs is Cleveleys near Blackpool and multimap doesn't recognise the place either. IGI is not producing any Hannah Simpsons from that area but perhaps it is her second marriage also.
Anyway thank you Maureen for finding father and son Thomas for me again. I wonder if poor motherless Jane has died?

Frances

Frances Report 29 Jan 2010 11:39

I think that Hannah maybe a second marriage

Marriages Dec 1847
COCK Thomas Burnley
21 143

Simpson Hannah Burnley

and there is only the one Thomas born in Yorkshire West Riding about 1840

GlitterBaby Report 29 Jan 2010 11:36

Hannah is wife born Clevershire, Lancashire

On image I would say that young Thomas was born Bradford. No idea where they got Pontefract from !!!

Frances

Good morning Glitter Baby, I think this Thomas is most likely - age correct, birthplace correct and occupation as 1841. Does he by any chance say he is a widower?

This is my final fling on the Cock family!
Glitter Baby kindly provided me with the 1841 census :-

Registration district: Burnley
Sub-registration district: Colne
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Thomas Cock 30 - wool comber
Jane Cock 20 - looks like 30 on image
John Cock 7
Benjamin Cock 5
Thomas Cock 1
Jane Cock 1
Only Thomas born in county – Jane could be Ireland?

I have found all the children born in Bradford, Yorks. The twins are

Births Mar 1840
Cock Jane Bradford
23 183

Cock Thomas Bradford
23 183

I believe the mother Jane died in 1847 Burnley and by 1851 the family is split up with the elder boys being nephews in Poulton Cum Seacombe with the Kennedy family. I have not found father Thomas again until 1881 but I thought the twins Thomas and Jane could be a better target (perhaps as grandchildren?). There could be a problem though as I see there was a Thomas died in 1843 in the Burnley dstrict (of course I don't know his age!)

Is anybody able to take up the challenge to find Jane and Thomas in 1851 please.

Many thanks,
Frances
