Find Ancestors

Trying to find information on my great grandmother Agnes Scott who married Robert Scott and they had about ten surviving children i think about 4 died so about 14 children in total, from glasgow i think. Please get n touch

Sorry, don't understand this. Was she agnes Johnstone marrying Robert Scott or Agnes Scott marrying Robert? Do you have any dates and areas where they were born?

she was agnes jonestone and then married Robert scott , they were born in glasgow, not sure exact dates but i would say around1890-1900

Have you looked at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for the birth certificate of your grandparent? You can download the actual entry which will give you the date and place of Agnes and Robert's marriage. £6 for 30 credits - 1 credit to view search result and 5 to view the certificate. You will then be able to look for the marriage certificate which will give you the ages of Agnes and Robert and their parents, names including the mothers' maiden surnames and their father's occupations. It may then be possible to find the families on census records.

If you do not have a subscription to a site with census records come back and post the details here and I am sure someone will do some lookups for you.

I should say the only births prior to 1909, marriages 1934 and deaths 1959 are available online - more recent ones have to be ordered. If you get Agnes and Robert's marriage certificate with their parents names then they may be found on the 1901 census to narrow the possible dates of birth for each of them.

Witnesses: Annie Porter & ? (can't make out)

Birth of Agnes Jane Johnston on 02/03/1878 at 218 St James Street, Kinning Park.
Parents as per the marriage . They were married 12/07/1872 at Anderston District of Glasgow.

Found a birth for Robert and Agnes of a daughter Marion who's middle name is Niven. This I think is the m.s. of Robert's mother which I could not make out on the marriage entry.

Parents as per his marriage to Agnes Johnston.
Parents were married 1868 June 5th District of Springburn Glasgow.

the children of agnes and robert scott were : Robert,david,james,john,minnie,mary,agnes,vyse,jean,jessie,roberta thats all i know but roberta had a twin called archibald who died as a baby about 6 months old.

I know for definete that Roberta scott, one of their daughters was born 10.02.1920 and died 2009

roberta was maried to Thomas Slater.

Looking at the names Agnes and Robert used for their children that 1881 census for Robert seems to be the correct family as that Robert also had a sibling Vyse.

The death certificates for Robert and Agnes's parents will get you back another generation. If you look on Scotlandspeople for the women first as they can be searched for using both the married and maiden surnames. The certificate will then tell you if they are "married to" or "widow of" and so narrow the time scale for the male deaths.
