Re: Looking for "Brabont" family.
I believe that the surname may be Brabant; they were from Belgium. At least the ones I have known were from that country.

In the 1891 census there are a couple of Brabant households from Belgium, and a couple of different ones in 1901. A Brabant and a Brabants born in Belgium in 1911, and a Brabant and a Van Brabant born in France.

And another coincidentally interesting name:

Marriages Mar 1922
BRABANT Eugenie Moor[e_] Bromley 2a 875
MOORE Frank Brabant Bromley 2a 875

What an odd coincidence

Name: Eugenie M A Wright
Spouse Surname: Contes
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1918
Registration district: Fulham
Registration county (inferred): London
Volume Number: 1a
Page Number: 889

and of course there's no matching spouse entry. Ha. It looked French, but I think it's William H B Coates. Still, an odd coincidental name! I was looking to see whether either party might have remarried ...

How about Wilfred Wright, do you have a death for him?

Seems to be him in 1911

WRIGHT WILFRED 1900 11 Boston Lincolnshire

Excellent.

Can't see him in 1901 or 1911 (I'd searched for every possible bar*t) but there is a Léonie Barbet born France c1865 in Folkestone in 1901 and there are two other French-born Barbets, stepchildren of Arthur Luck, i.e. children of Caroline Luck, born France.

Marriages Mar 1897
Barbet Caroline Louise E St. Olave 1d 343
LUCK Arthur St. Olave 1d 343

an obviously French family here:

Births Jun 1905 (died same quarter)
Barbet Marcel François Fulham 1a 372

I searched FreeBMD for all events for surname BARB*NT (if French, the pronunciation might lead to different vowels in English)

The marriage:

Marriages Mar 1920
BARBONT Eugenie M A Wright Boston 7a 808

This birth sure looks like it might be connected:

Births Jun 1852
Barbent Albert Boston 7a 362

(in French, that would be pronounced the way Barbont is in English but without the T)

And how about, also in Lincolnshire:

Marriages Mar 1948
Barbant Liliane S Gray Grimsby 5b 571

(which would be pronounced the same way as Barbent, in French)

f'r example, in 1871

Name: E Barbent
Age: 29
Estimated birth year: abt 1842
Relation: Servant
Gender: Female
Where born: Bologne, France
Civil parish: Kensington
Ecclesiastical parish: Brompton Holy Trinity
County/Island: London
Country: England
Registration district: Kensington

CONTE LOUIS CLEMENT 1857 54 Thanet Kent

Marion

Marion Report 19 Jan 2010 21:40

My Husband's Great Uncle Wilfred Wright, born 1899 in Swineshead near Boston Lincolnshire, married Eugenie Maria Aimee Barbont in Swineshead Parish Church in 1920. I have a copy of the Marriage certificate and it's 100% the right Wilfred, son of Charles Wright. Eugenie was a Daughter of Charles Augustin Barbont, a Coal Merchant of Swineshead. I have been unable to find any more information about Eugenie or her Father, the name sounds French to me The witnesses were both from the Wright family.
. There are no Wright/Barbont births after 1920 on FREEBMD, there is a death for a Eugenie Wright in Derby district 1978, her birh year is given as 1897, but there are no middle initials. I think they must have left the Boston area as my 89 year old Father in Law can't remember anything about them, and he remembers his other Aunts and Uncles well.
I don't know where else to look, so any help or advise would be very welcome, many thanks.
