Born april 1900. Name miss spelt and was known as Grimmitt all his life. Trying to find out where he was untill 1916 we think he was in a home. Can anyone help.

had a quick look on the free search for him under both surname spellings but nothing came up. It may be if he was in an institution/childrens home they may have only reg the children by initials only. I am trying to find FIL born 1900 and put in a home but he doesnt come up either which makes me think they were hidden by initials only for the 1911 census

I don't see a possible death for his mother or father on freeBMD to suggest that he would be in an orphanage.

Strangely, the last three were all born Marylebone. Hugh is also their adopted son.

Perhaps someone with 1911 could check for Stanley Howe in Epping and see if he is still there.

This address was probably the workhouse,in past times they gave false address for workhouse to avoid stigma on children in later life.

In Keighley the workhouse infirmary was just 121,fell Lane etc.

Googled 157,marylebone road and it says St marylebone Female Protection Society based at 157,marylebone road.

They cared for under age and destitute single mums.

It looks like his mother was not married also it is possable that 157 maylebone road was a home or hospital for unmarried women and HOWE was his fathers surname and when he was older he took his mothers name. I do think that this is your man.
