Choccy's guy is a Printer press man - she might have him rather than me but it's a big co-incidence isn't it!! Marriage entry in full:

Marriages Dec 1855 (>99%)
BURNHAM James Bermondsey 1d 67
MURPHY Eliza Bermondsey 1d 67
PENLIGEN Emma Bermondsey 1d 67
VEAR Samuel Bermondsey 1d 67

I think the evidence points to him being married don't you?

Your Samuel 1871.. Occupation Printer pressman. The Samuel living with his parents in 1861 is a lithographic printer. It must be the same man surely? Looking at original I am sure it says he is married - have a look and see.

I could find Martha in 1861 census being with Edward Littleton. I have not found Samuel in 1861 census only 1851 with his parents

I have looked for samuel in 1864 but could not find him. I know that edward died in 1864. Martha had another daughter with samuel also called Martha Vear. That is all I know

Have just looked at your original post again.
I think it odd that she reverted to her maiden name in 1891.
My guess is they never married. Have you looked for Samuel in 1861? Just in case he was already married?

Janet Report 18 Jan 2010 09:12

I am trying to find the marriage of Martha, I know she married a Edward Littleton, St. James Church Bermondsey on 28-7-1851. Edward died in 1864. She went on to marry a Samuel Vear apparently in 1864 at St Olaves, Southwark. I have searched the records for this marriage without success and am wondering if you could help me on this?

I have found her in census records1871 Living with Samuel and her children from Edward and also her daughter with Samuel. 1881 Living with Samual and Martha and 1891 living with her brother, daughter and son in law but her name appears as Shara.

Any help on her marriage to Samuel or anything else would be most appreciated.

Janet
