Thanks for that. The Ann who is definitely mine gives her birth year as 1823 three times and 1824 once. So probably not. Hmm.

ChristineinPortugal Report 13 Jan 2010 20:31

This is the Ann in Huddersfield, birth a year out actually. s

Address is Kirgate. If this one was born in the same place the baptism would probably be at St. Peters.

Thank you Janet, thanks Christine.

Christine, the Ann Gill living in Huddersfield town centre in 1841, who is she living with? Sounds like her, but the other people in the house may tell me more about who she was. Thanks!

ChristineinPortugal

ChristineinPortugal Report 13 Jan 2010 19:32

I agree with Janet, would have thought she would have given her exact birthplace as she was living in Dalton in 1851. There is an Ann Gill living in Huddersfield town centre of correct age in 1841. Dalton is close to the town centre.

Also don't think the William posted in 1841 is yours as that one is a carpenter and yours was a blacksmith. The other William in Scullacoates was a cabinet maker so probably that one.

I have also tried to find a marriage but not had any luck.

Hi Julian1
on the 1861 there are two William Chapmans born Hull. The
Sculcoates William is still living there, the other William with a wife Ann is in the Wortley district- JLe

Thanks Janet. The 1851 to 1881 inclusive she lists place of birth as Huddersfield. You could well be right, but I cannot find any other Ann Gill's born 1823 in Huddersfield. This was the closest match I could find. Appreciate what you are saying though, I am nowhere near sure this is her, it is just the best thing I have to look into at the moment. Thanks

EDIT: meant to say the one baptised in Kirkburton was born Thurstonland if that is any closer to being classed as Huddersfield?

Janet

Janet Report 13 Jan 2010 16:14

When you say that you only have Ann Gill on the census, could we check which census we are looking at.
If she had been baptised at Kirkburton she should have entered that as place of birth or somewhere which came within the parish of Kirkburton.-JLe

Ann Gill married William Chapman, but I cannot find a date for the marriage. Eldest child born 1848 so just before that I would imagine.

ChristineinPortugal

ChristineinPortugal Report 13 Jan 2010 15:15

Did Ann Gill marry as her marriage cert should give her father's name.

Thanks again folks. Lots of great information to look at there.

With regard to Ann Gill, I only have her on the census as born about 1823 and place of birth Huddersfield. But this Ann born of Jonathan and Sarah looks to be the best candidate. I don't know how to prove it though.

ChristineinPortugal Report 13 Jan 2010 15:01

I have Kirkburton baptisms booklet and can confirm the one from IGI is correct.

Thank you both very much. Shoemaker was the family occupation so that looks possible. And Sculcoates was the district I heard Edward and Sarah were married in. Thanks again.

Hello
Two questions in one - hope that isn't too cheeky, just seemed pointless making two posts.

I am looking for 1841 census records for Edward Chapman (date of birth unknown) and Sarah living in Hull. I am hoping there is a son William living with them, born about 1820. And also the 1841 census for Jonathan Gill (b.1789) and Sarah living in Thurstonland, Kirkburton or Huddersfield. I am hoping there is a daughter called Ann born about 1823.

If someone could have a quick look for me please, it would be fantastic!
Many thanks!
