So, if I get this right, Mary Ann Eady was an illegitimate child who had 2 illegitimate children, Walter & Rose, then Rose had illegitmate children? You're not going to have any fathers in your tree! |

As Kath says, I think the father James Eady, deceased was a made-up name to hide his illegitimacy. I've got a few cases like that in my tree, I'm sure most of us do! |

Hi all again, thanks for replies, I hope the Walter on the 1901 census is the right one as that is the one I have always thought it was. Anyway the Cert definately says 21 years very clearly, but my problem is the father as James Eady? my only thought now is he obviously must have been alive before Walter was born :-) so perhaps someone could find James on the 1871 census? for me please? |

This seems to be the same Walter in the 1881 census:- |

I would always take the age on a marriage certificate with a pinch of salt. In short - people lied. My grandmother added 5 years to her age and my grandfather took 3 years off his age - and miraculously a 19 year age gap between them seemed like only 11. |

This is the nearest I can find on the 1891 census (although he's a bit older than you thought) living with his sister in Cock and Bell Lane just next to Hall Street:- |
