Find Ancestors

Does anyone have access to the Barnsley parish records? I'm trying to find out more about Henry Dyson (born 1829) - can't find out for sure if he married Ann Hall or Ann Elizabeth Holgate - or both!

Theres this info on a tree on Ancestry. I know it's not verified but it might point you in the right direction

well, inputting Henry Dyson and Ann* into www.freebmd.org shows that there are many Henry Dysons marrying Ann's


what made you select these two in particular??



Especially as neither the marriage to Ann Hall nor Ann Holgate was registered in the are that included Barnsley!

Thanks all - it is the Henry with Joseph and Maria as parents I'm after. I said Bansley as the 1861 census had him living there as far as I can see (Darfield miner). I'm wondering if he married Ann Hall and later Ann Elizabeth Holgate?

Just to add, my confusion is that Ann Hall seems to have married him in 1849, but I can't find her on the 1851 census records - I wonder if she died?

1851 census Henry is a Lodger away from home in Doncaster and Ann is living with Henrys mother and family.

Fantastic - that explains a lot! Would you be able to find out when she died (as someone else's tree has him linked to the other Ann)?

This could be Ann's death in 1885 she is on the census's up to 1881

Still not convinced about Ann - although she is on the census, it could just as easily be the other Ann (and her that died when you said). Do you know if any Ann's died earlier?

The best way to prove if Henry married again to a Holgate is to send for this birth cert one of the children born after 1857 when the Holgate marriage took place

The Henry Dyson married in Dewsbury in 1857 married a Eunice Pearson
and is living with her family in 1861
I think the person who has Henry married to Holgate like you could not find him living with his wife in 1851 and has now got the wrong marriage
