They've been here a while! Just searching for any Letkey event at FreeBMD gives a death in September 1837 in Greenwich, one of the very first events civilly registered in England!

If you allow for alternate spellings (Letkey is probably an anglicization), there is one Letka in 1851 and one Letke

Name: Solomon Letke
Age: 19
Estimated birth year: abt 1832
Relation: Lodger
Gender: Male
Where born: Ekemplken, Poland

Civil parish: York St Crux

He is a glazier and in front of the Poland location it says 'Germany'.
County/Island: Yorkshire

The Margaret Letka is just a mistranscription of something I'd say.

as it is coming up as a Mennonite surname then it will be German - the Mennonites and Amish of Pennsylvania are of German extraction

Beatrice - you have posted this general question as well as a specific one about a Minnie Vosper somehow related to Letkeys

http://www.genesreunited.com.au/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1196549
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1196549

This will eventually lead to duplication of efforts. General questions are generally not a great idea, since everything comes down to individuals, and ends up repeating research done by other people if there are specific questions about the individuals too. Not everybody reads the same threads at the same time.

I suggest you stick to the Minnie Vosper thread for the Letkey questions, and that you do give us some more detailed information there.
