One last find (as FBMD has a choice of two wives called Emma for Henry Ayris (Sarah Elizabeth's parents):

Marriage:
Ayris Henry Stepney 2 530 OND 1846.
Passworth Emma Stepney 2 530 OND 1846.
Penny Emma Stepney 2 530 OND 1846.

Name: Henry Ayris
Age: Full Age
Spouse Name: Emma Papworth
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 7 Dec 1846
Parish: Saint Thomas, Stepney
County: Middlesex
Borough: Tower Hamlets
Father Name: James Ayris.
Henry a shoemaker, ditto James Ayris his father and Thomas Papworth Bride's father. Winesses, Robert Ayris & Eliza Bruce.
Emma's surname is hard to read on register, hence FBMD Passworth, but father Thomas is definitely written Papworth.

But Beatrice after all these many threads in the last few days you must be picking up something.

Have you tried a single search of your own at FreeBMD just for instance yet?

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

The International Genealogy Index?

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/igi/search_igi.asp

How about the 1881 census? It's available at familysearch.org

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp

but I prefer the search function at Ancestry where it is also free.

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=7572

of course you can search all censuses at Ancestry

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/census/uk/default.aspx

you just can't see details for other years.

At this rate you're going to have your entire family tree back to 1800 from work done entirely by other people, which is no fun at all and will leave you with nothing to do but colour in the leaves on the printout.
