Thanks Vivienne - I think they must have teleported to Canada!

Must admit my main interest with this branch, Great Uncle actually, is trying to find out what happened to baby Jack as I've always felt sorry for him, motherless and Dad Henry took off for Australia in 1927 and left him behind with Rosina and Ethel.

I'll make a note of that 1911 info.

Thanks for trying

Pam

I don't think that's him Bruce, his siblings were Frank (twin), Ethel and Rosina and his father James worked on the railway, his mother was Rosina.
I'm also pretty sure I found them on the 1911 UK census, I haven't bought credits so I only looked at the search page. If I remember rightly the whole family were in Wandsworth.

Mary is 7 and Monica is 5 so I guess they are her kids as they travel together, and will rule that one out.

chrissiex Report 31 Dec 2009 21:57

In the 1911 Canadian census there is a Henry N Butcher with father James W and sister Mary A aged 19. James is a farmer born in England, mother is Martha.

There was a lot of visiting went on after the war I think.

Well this will be Monica and Mary

BUTCHER Mary 1913 F 1920 Liverpool Canada Saint John NB
BUTCHER Monica 1915 F 1920 Liverpool Canada Saint John NB

That's certainly something to consider. However there are no Marys or Monicas that I am aware of in my Butcher family.
Are there any more details about them?

I had found their marriage on BMD although not the actual date - funnily enough that's the date of my wedding anniversary, tho' many many years later I hasten to add!

As Henry returned to the UK in 1920 with a 3 month old baby son my guess is that she died in childbirth in early 1920 so there's only a relatively short perod of time between their wedding and his return when they could have travelled to Canada

So might he have preceded Nellie to Canada and she would be recorded as travelling alone?

Ah, Vivienne is on the case, lol

Thanks for your efforts Vivienne.

Henry, sometimes known as Harry, was born 27/8/1887 in Pancras, Middlesex. He served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during WW1 and on his attestation papers his occupation is Locomotive Fireman.

I managed to get a record of him returning from Canada with his infant son before they moved the records to the expensive section of Ancestry.

Returned from Montreal, Canada 26/7/1920 on Corsican, Canadian Pacific Line, with Jack aged 3 months. Docked at Liverpool.

I'd say might this be Helena

but there doesn't seem to be a matching person who could be Henry

When was Henry born and what was his occupation ?

Im not finding any Nellies or Helenas to suit at the moment

jerseylily

jerseylily Report 31 Dec 2009 21:16

I just typed Nellie Butcher arriving in Canada 1916-1920, (sorry I put 1918 in the original request) born in London, in the search facility and there was one at the top of the list.

Mine was born in 1886/7 in Lambeth (Helena Adelaide Cattermole) married Henry Butcher in Wandsworth in 1918 and died in Canada 1919 or 1920.

I would be really grateful if someone with Worldwide Ancestry can give me the details of a Nellie Butcher who is shown as going into Quebec between 1918 and 1920.

Many Thanks
