There are many Buckfields in the Sutton area - I was in fact born down the road! So there most likely is a connection - I guess I'll just have to wait and get John's birth cert to be sure!

There is a John Buckfield 1826 Sutton Surrey occ engineers labourer and family living in the same area as your John in 1881

If he is living with his uncle in 1861 it could be that his mother has died. His birth cert is the only way to know for sure.

Have you looked for any Buckfield deaths around the time of his birth

Not found him in 1871 on FMP either
