I'm looking for a Jonathan William Pargiter born circa 1819 in Bristol (a boot maker) and his wife Mary Ann Bird born circa 1823 in Bristol. They would have have been living somewhere in the Bristol or Gloucester areas. Many thanks for any help.

Ooooh - now you've stumped me. I believe when I was researching him I came up with two Jonathan William Pargiters - one in London and one in Bristol. I was sure he had been born in Bristol and thought I had some doc with his birthplace on. I was trying to find out if he and his first wife had any children. Mary Bird died in 1842. My great grandfather, the son of Jonathan's second marriage, was born in St Phillips, Gloucester that's a definite.

I cant see a Bristol birth but there 2 for London. I can see his second marriage too in Gloustershire, but what I cant find and what you really want is the bloomin 1841 census

Thanks very much for the BMD info. Yes, Jane Morgan was his second wife and their son Archibald John was my great grandfather. They obviously moved down to Hampstead eventually as that was the area where Archibald married and had children.

Thanks Glitter Baby - but that can't be him. I know surnames get distorted over time, but I can't imagine that he got married for a third time!! Something to think about though .................

Thanks for the latest. I have all of those census details, but thanks very much for following up. I have been looking at my tree and I have a horrible feeling you could be right and Jonathan DID marry a third time. My great grandfather's middle name was John and on several census doesn't call himself Archibald. The Jonathan/Elizabeth marriage has a child John in the 1861 census aged 13, and my great grandfather was born around 1849. I'm sure the daughter died young, but you've really thrown me now!!!

I have seen that entry for a John Wm Pargiter as a servant before and wondered whether he was "mine". Clarissa died at about 2 years old, that I am certain of. You'd think with a name like Pargiter that searching would be easy, wouldn't you!!

So was Clarrisa jonathan's daughter? I thought you didnt know the children, or am I getting confused!

I knew about Clarissa but I don't know how, stupid as that sounds, although I didn't know she could have been his third wife's child. I was trying to find out if Jonathan and his first wife Mary had any children, sorry to have confused you.
