brummiejan Report 30 Nov 2009 14:29

Hi again! Lost my nerve there as I felt I needed to re-think all this. I double-checked Emma's name and it is Whitehouse . I do have Harriet's birth cert but not their marriage cert - there has been some confusion for me about Emma's name, as I can't find their marriage - the nearest I have is:

Marriages Mar 1866 (>99%)

HILLIER Henry Birmingham 6d 18
WHITEHURST Emily Birmingham 6d 18

Still no nearer to Alice though I fear!

Any more ideas please? Am looking at your info but tying myself in knots!

Cheers

Joan, I don't I'm afraid. I must admit this is originally some of my earlier research which I am re-visiting, so isn't quite as thorough as more recent investigations. (Or so I like to think!) I suppose I didn't anticipate it would be quite so hard finding this Alice, thought it was just me!.

I am so grateful for your efforts, and there is some interesting stuff here for me to look at.. May I ask you to leave your posts on here for now please? Need to re-coup with all the info I have been given! I promise I shall have finished looking at all of it by the end of next week, then I'll come back and say what I have done. I know it helps to get rid of extra threads but I could do with all this a bit longer please. Hope that is OK.

I won't object to any more of course!!

With gratitude

Jan

The Bainbridge family in 1881 is minus the parents and Maria Alice, Robert jnr and Mary are under the name Baimbridge and are lodgers in the Wilson family. maria Alice is now just Alice and is a lodger with the Lawrence family... interestingly there is also a Wilson lodger.

Denise, that's a very interesting find. There is no Bainbridge name in my family as far as I know, but this is the best find so far!

I've found the marriage so might try following this up.

Many thanks!

EDIT need to go away for a bit so forgive me if delay in replying.

Hi Jan,

the name ALICE BAINBRIDGE keeps popping up for me, so I checked on trees on ancestry and found this;

Name: Maria Alice Bainbridge
Birth: 1871 - Smethwick, Staffordshire, England
Death: 1904 - Staffordshire, England
Parents: Robert Bainbridge, Emily Campton
Spouse: Benjamin Sanders

Is that Benjamin Saunders????

Hi Polly and Denise. Thanks for your interest.

Yes, that is them. I can't figure this out - she doesn't seem to be anywhere. The name seems to be transcribed correctly looking at the original. I decided to go down the marriage route but am stumped even there. Can't even find her 1911!!

Slowly going mad - still, we all like a challenge don't we!

Any other ideas would be gratefully recieved

Regards

Hi Polly - I didn't put age as such, just pasted from Ancestry! Will check original. Is your info from FMP?

Thanks both. I am sort of hoping she really is a problem so I won't feel as daft when someone solves the mystery!!

Thanks for your input.

I cannot place the Alice below on previous census reports or even her birth/marriage. I have the family on all other reports but no Alice! She is recorded as Henry's daughter so must be a Hillier - she was born after Henry and Emma married.

I feel this is staring me in the face but just can't crack it.

Any advice gratefully received!
