Find Ancestors

i am trying to confirm exact dob for john prophet. on the 1851 census dated 30mar1851 it gives his age as 6 months. this means he was born about sep 1850.i cannot find this anywhere at all. i need this to order his birthcert because i want to find out who his parents were as i am doing a prophet family tree.

can anyone help with this quest please?

Looks like there are 2 possibles! Do you have a sibling with a more unusual name by any chance? Or a marriage cert giving his father's name?

i know he married maria because i have a birth cert for one of his sons.i also know they both died young which is why johns dad doesnt show on any of the census. but his dob has to be around sep 1950 because it says he is 6 months in 1851. its driving me mad not being able to get this.

rose i think you are brill, this is him fro sure. now excuse my ignorance but if i ring up the gro to order the birth cert will the christening details be enough?

the reason i need the cert is not just to find his parents but more importanly to find out her maiden name as this is a bit of a mystery. i think he was brought up by other family members and i need to fit the last pieces of the jigsaw together.

hopefully now getting nearer to the finish. thanks a bunch guys great work.

You should not rule out the John that Jan has found just yet, the DOB fits well and the registration district is 2 miles at the most from Sandbach.

Christina, it helps to have the reference details - I repeat, the birth above gives you what you need to order cert. You can specify father's name if you wish.

EDIT thanks Ann - I checked the reg district for the 1850 birth and Sandbach lies within it.

liverbird 1 you are right. i know that mary ann did marry a downie chap because her husband died and she remarried but ther was a huge family of step children etc it was hard to know who belonged to who.

so i now know that betty prophet must have born around 1777 and was johns grandmother. she must also be a widow as there is no mention of her husband that i could find.

ok i think i have enough to go on now but thanks to everyone who contributed,its getting late and time to finish today.
will get on to gro 1st thing on monday and take it from there
