1911 Census Lookup

There isn't a listing in the phone books for A Pickering in Belper - not that it would really be of any help to you if there was. You know their address, so you wouldn't gain any additional info from the phone book.

This isn't going be resolved unless you get some certs - or at least find out when Arthur died, so someone can check his age at death on the index.

1911 for the Hodson family

HODSON ALBERT M 1904 7 Belper Derbyshire
HODSON HARRIET F 1901 10 Belper Derbyshire
HODSON HERBERT M 1908 3 Belper Derbyshire
HODSON JOHN M 1864 47 Belper Derbyshire
HODSON JOHN WILLIAM M 1893 18 Belper Derbyshire
HODSON MARY ANN F 1869 42 Belper Derbyshire
HODSON MAY F 1899 12 Belper Derbyshire

I note that on the census - and on her birth reg'n - Harriet does not have a second name........yet the marriage reg'n shows a second initial...............

Freewheel,

No, I do not have certificates to prove the relationship. Only family knowledge which I was hoping to confirm through the 1911 Census. I do not know when Arthur died.

However, I do know that Harriett and Arthur Pickering lived at the same Hodson family home 5 Hopping Hill, Belper until they passed away.

I was hoping maybe someone has access to Ancestry phone books which might have their listing after 1942, as we know the address.

I also know that Rose Eliza and Edward Pickering's son, John Edward was killed in WWII. Which again confirms the families were still living in the Milford, Belper area in 1943.

Name: PICKERING, JOHN EDWARD
Initials: J E
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Gunner
Regiment/Service: Royal Artillery
Unit Text: 58 Medium Regt.
Age: 23
Date of Death: 03/07/1943
Service No: 1109605
Additional information: Son of Edward and R. E. Pickering, of Milford, Derbyshire.

Thank you

Have you got any certs to prove the relationship?

There are 27 years between the marriages......................

When did Arthur die?

Thank you everyone for all your help, so kind. This is such a mystery!

I know that two sisters Harriett Hodson b. 1901 and Rose Eliza Hodson b. 1895 married two brothers. All the families lived in Belper before and after the marriages. The Hodson family home since 1901 was 5 Hopping Hill, Belper.

I know that Rose Eliza Hodson married Edward Pickering in 1915, Belper (and had a son John Edward Pickering 1919 - 1943).

I found that Harriett Hodson married Arthur Pickering in 1942, Belper.

I know that Harriett and Arthur Pickering lived at the same Hodson family home 5 Hopping Hill, Belper until they passed away.

So this 1911 Census seems a bit odd.

Well, thank you all for trying, I do really appreciate all the help!

Mary, I found arthur seperate, there is only one arthur pickering born 1900 in the district of Belper according to the 1911 search.
It is possible he was in another residence at the time of the census, I personally have come across ancestors in other people's homes at census times.
Ofcourse, to get more information would require the credits.

Regards,
William.

Arthur isn't on 1901 - so the one on 1911 born c1900 is not 'your' family, as he would be on 1901.

Do you have the birth cert to prove that Arthur was Edward's brother? I rather think not, as you seem unsure about his year of birth...................

thank you Sharon!

I wonder if Arthur Pickering is with relatives in the 1911 Census as I don't see him listed. That's odd, as the 8 children are listed. Hmmm...

Hello Mary, a general search on 1911 census.co.uk brings up Edward Pickering born 1894 living in Belper, and Joseph Edward Pickering born 1904 living in Belper, and Arthur born 1900 living in Belper.
To view the original census page requires credits.
Hope the above helps.
Best Wishes,
William.

Could someone help me with a 1911 Census lookup please?

Brothers Edward Pickering b. 1894, Belper, Derbyshire and Arthur Pickering c. 1901?, Belper, Derbyshire. And they would have been living in Belper in 1911.

Thank you!

Mary
