My Rose Billinghurst is the one born in Lewes, sussex. That is definite

I have not looked on the criminal registers - thats a new one on me - where would I find them? Are they on Ancestry?

Don't spend any more time on her. I know someone would have found her, if she was findable!!! She could be Florence, but ....?

have you tried looking at criminal registers to see if Florence is 'Florence' or 'Rose' in them

there are also several Billinghurst birth reistrations in the apprximate place & time ascale just registered as 'Female' which could be Florence

Sorry if you have spent time looking for my Rose Billinghurst!!

I think as you say, it must be Florence as an Inmate with loads of ladies. This Florence is born in the right place also, Lewes, Sussex.
I agree in institutions etc, they did not always get the correct details down. They could have muddled her age with the lady above on this census, who was 21 !!! Just thoughts.

Hi Josephine.

Haven't posted before, but I too have been searching for your Rose with no result!

For what it's worth I think Choccy's find stands a really good chance of being right - there is no trace of this "Florence" anywhere else, and in a prison with loads of other inmates there is a good chance the name just got recorded incorrectly

The only other thing I tried was looking for John on the off-chance she was already living with him as his wife, but no luck there either!

I think antipodes, I might have to consider Florence being Rose, but she should really be only 21ish.
On the 61 census she was 1, 1871 she was 11, 1881 missing, 1891 29, she has lost a year or two , 1901 she gives 39 and 1911 goes to 51 !!

I don't actually have a sub to FMP, but looked on the searches, but could find no Rose Billinghurst.
Could be Rosina, but all the other censuses, she has put down Rose.

I have decided she is unfindable!!!!

Found a Florence, not Rose.

Can find no 'Florence' being born in Sussex between 1852 and 1861 ??

I am looking for Rose Billinghurst. She should be 21 b Lewes, Sussex.

The 1861 census she is with her parents Henry and Jane Billinghurst at Rodmell, Lewes, age 1
In the 1871 census (under Billingswrath' on Ancestry), she is again with her parents in Lewisham, London.
1881 census - cannot find - but not with her family

1891, she was married Rose Piercey, age 29 b Lewes, and again in Lewisham.

Can anyone find her on the 1881 census probably under a different spelling!!!
