many WW1 service records were destroyed in a fire in WW2

there is a gf Humphrey's attestation papers there quite a few images will have a look through and see if it mentions next of kin as a clue

Maybe the George who was son of John and Charlotte is not George FREDERICK humphrey.Its just that Charlie Cecil Humphrey had in his posession a note saying George Frederick Humphrey died in 1951 Sussex.I was hoping this was his brother George.

No the George F Humphrey I was looking at was married , to Elsie and living in St Johns wood London.

Hi Rambling Rose does it give any clues as to how old this George is and where he was born?.

The one you have found might be a possibility as Elsie Hilda Lower was born in 1899 Lewes and married a George Humphrey in Newhaven Mar 1917.

I might have to approach this at a different angle by maybe getting his marriage cert first,

Sam just seen on another entry that he married Elsie Barker st Marylebone church 1914, witness Alice Humphrey...

and on another page , details incl that he was 24 years old, that is dated 1915 when he enlisted.

seems a possible Sam, if you could get his father's name from birth cert ...I have had a look for that but only coming up with this as the closest in date?

Edit sorry missed that you have his father's name already, so might be worth trying for marriage cert?

This goes back to what i said earlier maybe my George Humphrey is only George Humphrey, not George Frederick Humphrey.

I will see if i can contact where he is buried and ask who the informant was,hopefully this will give me some clues.
