It might be either Terry.

Usually it gives father's name - sometimes under occupation it will say deceased instead of giving an occupation.

Sometimes, it will not say deceased even when father is deceased. I think it depends on the way in which the question is asked.

Joseph and Alice were living in the same house. Joseph was a lodger, Alice was a "nurse child".

Mangling is laundry work. Google - "mangle" - you can find quite a lot of info about it online.

Are you descended from this chap? If so I would order the birth cert of your known ancestor - his child. That would confirm Elizabeth's maiden name and then help you with the marriage cert. The marriage cert might be the only way to find Arthur's father's name for sure.
