1891 census image for George:
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1891/pdf/30953_148145-00663.pdf
NB George (and his daughter Annie) are Mary Ann Lowe's lodgers. She (MAL) appears to be 6 y older, so I think George has raised his age by 3 y.

Just because there were children, don't assume that the parents were married.........

The fact that they emigrated in 1870 may have forced their hand

Julie Report 5 Nov 2009 08:07

Don't take it that a marriage had to be round when the 1st child was born

My Nan was the youngest of 3 the eldest was born in 1896 & her parents marriage in 1914

Darealjolo Report 5 Nov 2009 07:42

The following children were Joseph's and Sarah children

Catherine - about 1868
Joseph - June 2, 1863
Thomas - 1965

And there is a huge debat on whether or not my great grandfather was born there or not. John Edward Belcher born December 12, 1874. If he was born there then I have the date wrong on when they came to America.

What I think is that it was Joseph's 2nd marriage as there are children born before 1870..

Do you know how old Joseph was when he died?

I haven't found George born 1859 with parents Joseph and Sarah.

I think the 1870 marriage might be wrong.

They have a son that was born in 1859. So the marriage had to be around then. Their 1st son born was George Belcher born Nov. 9, 1859.

I am researching my friends family and looking to find anything on a Sarah Pierce and Joseph Belcher. They left Liverpool, England in 1870. But I have not been able to find their parents any where I look. They went from Liverpool, England to the Port of Quebec, Canada. Joseph died in Canada in 1871, and Sarah died in New York , unknown when, but it was the early 1900's. I do know that they were married In england though.

Thankyou
