Hi Michelle, I have had a cup of tea and reread your question, duh, I'm thick! you mean bothers and sisters of Eliza. I just have the ones that Janey put on there John Harris 16, Eliza 13 Henry 11 and Emily 8. Which states Eliza's estimated dob was 1848. I assume she got it on the 1861 census. I have not been able to locate this yet. Kathy

I have been gone all day today so sorry for getting back with you so late. I am not sure what you are asking me Michelle. I have all the birth dates for John Brockwell and Eliza's, children I painstakingly looked them up on the GRO records on Genes. I assume they are right. One of the son's John Edward born 1870 May 26th he is my grandfather. I really appreciate all the help. Kathy

Do you have the birth indexes for eliza and siblings, when lm searching for b/c l always search a couple of yrs before and after census dates. lve had lots of census where the ages dont add up regards michelle x

Kathy, read the info Michele posted, not what I posted, for instance.

I don't have access to the deluxe UK info at Ancestry that Michele has. I was using FreeBMD and just searched for all Harris births in Wandsworth in that time period, and could see that the family in question was all there.

Michele has given you the actual details from the birth registrations -- including both parents' names. Have a read through her posts again and you'll see they've got everything you could want! That info confirms that the births I looked at, at FreeBMD, are indeed yours.

The only way to know which birth is the right one has always been to order the birth certificate blind. Now, the actual info is becoming available on line, and that will save some of the blind flailing about in the records. ;)

Yes I think so I just looked it up on roots so now it makes sense. My question is. When you first put in a name in Roots and you really do not have much info on that person. How do you know which one is the one you are looking for if the birth dates on the census are so off? Help! Kathy

The index has the birth of an Eliza in Wandsworth in 1848. There are also an Emily born in Wandsworth in 1853, a Henry born in 1850, etc. I'd bet on that birth, and get the certificate to find Harriet's name, since the marriage may have been before 1837.

Is the DOB you have from a census? It may be inaccurate.

An Eliza Elizabeth Harris was born in 1844 in Bethnal Green. (I'll let you do the search, as learning how to use FreeBMD is one of the most important and fun things in this game!)

The birth certificate will confirm whether her father was George, and if so who her mother was.
