I am thinking if Harry was born in 1911 and his father was deceased by his marriage in 1928, then maybe his father could have been one of the many killed in WW1. I have begun looking at the WW1 records for all Harry Smiths to see if I can find anything amongst them. |

another thing to consider is that the age at death is only as good as an informant knows and could be a bit out. |

often a 'deceased' father on a marriage certificate is fictitious. It might be worth just using the dob as a checking point, exact places can also be mis-remembered. |

Do you know if Harry had any brothers or sisters - that might help to identify him in the 1911 census. |

Having trouble finding my great grandfathers birth certificate. Have applied to the GRO twice and receive replies saying this person cannot be found with the details I give them. I have looked up his marriage and death certificate and know he is called Harry Smith, born 11 February 1906, born Winson Green, Birmingham. His father was also called Harry Smith, but deceased (according to his marriage certificate in 1928). I have given all these details to the GRO and they cannot find anyone who matches these details. I have searched the 1911 census and come up with a few Harry Smiths, their fathers all being Harry Smith. |
