I am trying to find the birth & 1891 census records for Sarah Ann Atkins. Here she is ( married ) in the 1901 census - it says she is 24yrs old - which makes here birth c1877 - but she married James Nash in Pontypridd in Dec 1891 - that would make her only 11 / 12yrs old??:
Help to find her birth / her family & where she is in 1891 appreciated.

Thanks Jim
But, I dont think that is the correct Sarah......
I am looking for Sarah Anne Atkins born c1877.
In the 1901 census, her married name is Nash & she says that she was born in High Clifton, ( is that Bristol)? Somerset.

It kind of makes sense that Sarah Anne Atkins, could have been born in / nearWales ( and not Somerset )
But, she did say in the census that she was born in High Clifton (?) I have google Mapped it and there is no such place - only a 'Clifton' - which is in the Bristol Area ( which, I think WAS Somerset, but is now Avon ). - But this is 35min drive by car from Cameley ( her pos father ) & High Littleton ( her pos siblings )......so, Im not sure if this is the right Sarah Atkins.....however - her birth year (1877) is the same! and she could have thought that she was born in Somerset.... It would be great if I could find a birth of a Sarah Ann Atkins in Clifton - then I would know that the one found in Risca, Wales couldnt be the Sarah that I am looking for.
Also, I still dont understand how she married in - Marriages Dec 1891 >>Atkins Sarah Ann Pontypridd 11a 839 >>Nash James Pontypridd 11a 839
It cant possibly be the right marriage??? if, she was obly born in 1877 ???? Perhaps just a co-incidence that the couples names are the same......?
anyone got any thoughts please?
I havent yet got the marriage cert for James & Sarah

Do you have the birth certificate for that James Nash living with his father and Sarah Ann Nash in 1901? It is a bit unusual for a couple (at that time) to have been married for 10 years and only have 1 child. Did they have more children? Could that child be the issue of a previous marriage of James's? What led you back to her marrying James Nash in 1891 please? Or is Sarah Ann not the direct line but a sibling of your ancestor and you are trying to find marriages and offspring for all you ancestor's siblings?

Gillian Do you have the marriage certificate for James Nash and Sarah Ann Atkins? Have you got her name from one of the children's birth certificate? If not then how can you be sure that the marriage you have found belongs to the couple in the 1911 census? Edit Sorry I see you have already said that you don't have the marriage certificate. So my question remains how can you be sure that marriage belongs to that couple? Von

Hi Folks - again, many thanks for your help.
Somerset Girl - The family that you have found in 1911 is quite likely to be MY Nash family.
Von - I think that you are correct, I am not sure that the marriage that I found, is the right marriage : Marriages Dec 1891 >>Atkins Sarah Ann Pontypridd 11a 839 >>Nash James Pontypridd 11a 839 This was the ONLY marriage, that I could find between a James Nash & Sarah Ann ( ?surname unknown) - in Pontypridd......
I need to search more to find any other James Nash & Sarah Ann marriages around 1891/ 93.

Sarah is my great grandmother ( my great grandad - James's wife ). I know nothing about her and am trying to find out who she was & where she came from & her families history etc.
I have their son ( my grandfather ) here in 1901: 1901 CENSUS: Name: James Nash Age in 1901: 6 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1895 Relation: Son Father's Name: James Mother's Name: Sarah Ane Gender: Male Where born: Penygracy, Glamorgan, Wales Civil Parish: Ystradyfodwg Ecclesiastical parish: Llwynypia St Andrew County/Island: Glamorgan Country: Wales Registration district: Pontypridd Sub registration district: Ystradyfodwg ED, institution, or vessel: 49 Household schedule number: 206 James Nash 26 Coal Miner, born Forest of Dean (Gloucs) James Nash 6 Sarah Ane Nash 24 b. Looking at the image again, James is Head of Household. It would appear that the house is divided in 2 and the Nash Family have 2 rooms in it. They are given a sep number on the schedule , indicating they are a sep household. The people in the other bit of the house are called Dando

"I am looking for my Mums Mums family , her name was Martha Ellen Nash Married name (Adams ) born about 1908/09 in Wales her fathers name was James Nash mother Sarah or saran they had I believe three daughters my grandmother Martha and a sister called Rose not sure about the other one I would like to find out more about them and other relatives if I can find some one to help I know about my Grandfather so are more interested in my grandmothers family"
Did you ever get Martha's birth certificate which would have proved her mother's maiden name? 1909 NASH Martha Ellen Pontypridd.11a 728

Forget the census records for a minute. Do you have your grandfather's birth certificate? What names are given for his parents on it and what was his father's occupation please?
Now back to the census. As I said before, it is a bit unusual (though not unheard of) for a couple married in 1891 to only have 1 child in 10 years. The same family in 1911 have more children. So I am wondering if that Sarah on the 1891 census is the mother or step mother of James.
From your other thread about the wife of James (Junior) I am wondering if you are trying to research your family from word of mouth "facts" and census records. The only way to build a factual family tree involves buying official certificates. For all of us, regardless of age our memories play tricks. You need to remember that people only tell you what they wish you to know and often conceal facts that, to their minds, would tarnish the memory of an ancestor.
