Yes, this is searching for them via Dulwich in 1911. I'm sure you have all this too, but I find it interesting.

Is this him?

UK Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960 about Ernest Tassell

Arrival Date: 10 Oct 1915

There's an address written underneath which I presume is his contact address.

That is well spotted. I keep looking that that one, but unless they registered Ernest Clarence Tassell twice, once in 1878 in Kent and again in London in 1881. It might give an address!!
The answer is I don't think it is one of my family, but could get a BC to check it out!

STEVEN

It hink as you say, they missed the Enumerator
My only other thought is that they went to Canada while the census was being taken, because one of the children, i.e. Ernest Clarence Tassell
went out to Michigan to live with his wife and children and they appear in the 1930 US census

Many thanks for your help
Jo

I've tried FindMyPast but drawn a blank there. Also an address search for 12 Nile Terrace on the 1881 at FMP, but there was a completely different family living at that address then.

I have ancestors who don't appear on the 1851 census, which is very frustrating. I hoped when FMP released their 1851 census for Shropshire that the family would turn up having been somehow missed or very badly mis-transcribed by Ancestry, but sadly not. From the baptism record for one of their children I suspect they were living in a tiny settlement (just a small cluster of houses) a little way out of the main village, and that this was missed by the enumerator for whatever reason. I have baptisms for their children on either side of 1851 which helps fill the gap and am now resigned to the fact that they are just not on the census.

I don't think that census you gave is right. I am actually looking for Thomas and Eliza, and that is definitely Edward on the census. Also they were born Surrey

Many thanks for your help

STEVEN

I also found that one on Ancestry PRs, but they don't include the other members of the family, unfortunately.

JULIE

Yes, I have tried every way as well on Ancestry, I wondered whether Find My Past has anything different. I don't have a sub to FMP

OZIBIRD

Yes, I have all their birth nos, plus marriages and deaths, but just cannot find them on the 1881 census.

Many thanks to you all for your help

Jean

Possible. On the 1891 census he was a General Labourer, which I think covers bricklayers. Will put in Tossell and see what I can see
Will get back to you

I feel sure they have misspelt it on transcription, but I have exhausted my brain of trying variations.

Many thanks
