Find Ancestors

for eliza bevan. in 1858 she married john jones in shipton shropshire.

the certificate states eliza's father as benjamin corfield. what i am trying to find out is who eliza's parents are. the census shows her living with benjamin corfield and ann corfield. eliza was born in 1830. benjamin corfield married ann edwards in 1833. children were born after the marriage but none were given the name bevan.

has anyone any idea how i can find out who her parents are. i have searched igi looking for a birth without sucess.

could the Corfield marriage have been a second marriage for Ann?

There is a tree on Ancetry with Benjamin Corfield with the spouse being a Ann Bevan. so Ann could have been a unmarried mother with Eliza and then married Benjamin as there is a big age gap on the census with the children. But I cant seem to find Ann birth details to back it up

Sorry just seen you already have the marriage cert and her name was Ann Edwards the tree on ancestery was wrong

this is why i am confused if ann was married before then eliza would have been edwards.

could ann have had eliza then married an edwards and then marrried corfield--but its all in a short time span.

Are you sure the 1833 marriage is the correct one? Do you have any of the children's birth certs. to confirm Ann's maiden name?

She's called Corfield on the 1841 census, Curiously there's an Edwards family next door but one.

. i found the marriage on igi and it seemed to fit. a member on here gave me the corfield tree which also shows the marriage but no information on either ann or eliza. off to have a look at the edwards family in brookhampton on ancestry

Just seems odd they married in 1833 yet the first child wasn't until 1840.

i have received the birth certificate for one of the corfield children which gives the mother as anne formally edwards. the marriage of anne and benjamin is correct. still struggling to find who eliza bevan is.

She may not be Ann's child at all. They may have adopted her.

Also she could be the child of a previous wife of Benjamin. Do you know if he was married before?

This may be stating the obvious but have you checked that Eliza wasn't married before . It would explain the 3 different surnames.

yes good thanks, am trying this side of the family and getting nowhere! guess i am going to have to go to shropshire and go through the parish records. yes i have looked for previous marriages but found nothing. hope your searches are going well.
