We really don't know but having a second name by the of Griffith, not Griffiths might be a clue.

I assume your father kept his name? It does seem unusual as you say. Assuming then that you do not have his birth record?

I wonder if my father might have been related to the Hughes or the Griffiths family, even though he was adopted at the age of 15 which is unusual, wonder where he was before then and it's more than possible he may have been part of his adopted mother's family in one way or another. Food for thought !

My father's adopted father was William Ellis Jones who was married to Mary Catherine Jones both of 23 Lorne Street Oswestry Shropshire.
They adopted him that is my father Ronald Griffiths Jones
6th February 1939 yet my father was born on 12th December

.1922 and he was fifteen when they adopted him.
As for William, I'd like to find out more about his family.
I think he was around the fiftyish age group in 1937.
