I've got mixed feelings about this. At first I got quite annoyed if people posted recent details, and like Shirley I still PM them myself as I feel comfortable with that. But I now think that really anyone can access what we put on here if they try, so it probably doesn't matter.
I think the 100 year rule is a bit redundant now information on living people is so readily available. Am I right in thinking it's less in the USA?

The one hundred closure on census was an assurance by the government that people's personal details would be kept private .this was to reassure people and to encourage them to give the enumerator their details, Census now are a legal requirement to fill in .
As for putting living peoples details on Genes this is one of the T& C,s of the site, Genes is an open forum so anything posted on it would come up on a google search.
Yes people do ask for look ups but I personally would PM someone with any info found if date wise that person could still be alive .

Why is there a Hundred year law on the census
We are advised not to put living peoples details in our trees on this site

But people when either asking or doing a look up will put them on in the forum .......Mail me @ confused.com
