Find Ancestors

Hi I went to the library this afternoon and found my great gran as a child with her aunt. Maria Knowles age 5 and aunt was Eliza Burgess,uncle Samuel Burgess,a boot maker. All at White Street Topsham,Devon. England. That was 1861.

I know Eliza was previously called Eliza Knowles-she was Marias Dads sister. Can anyone find Eliza before that year please. I think the Knowles family were from nearby Lympstone or Woodbury. Maria's Dad was called Thomas Knowles if that helps. Tahnks for any help.

Are you saying then that Sarah was Elizas mother and Eliza was a lacemaker?-That is so great if so . We have some beautiful handmade lace and crochet that were Maria's and we never knew who taught her to do it-Looks like it waws her aunt that she lkived with then-dear Eliza! We were always told she learnt it as a lady's maid-but looks like thats not quite right then.
