Would sometime mind doing a couple of 1911 look-up

Could anyone tell me who were the members of these households and their address please (if it says where they were born, then so much the better). My family appear to be using either two of three surnames and they are proving difficult to track down.

They are both in the Brentford area.

The first is the Cousins household - Mr Charles Cousins Snr and Charles Jnr and Mrs Emily Cousins - the parents were born about 1864/65.

The second is Henry Smart, born about 1883/86.

I'd be most grateful.

Many thanks

Graham

Graham you can do free household searches yourself!!

There are NO subscriptions that give you free access to the 1911 currently....Looking at the image is very very expensive (this is the only way to get birth locations) What you are asking of someone is alot when you could dig deep and do the research yourself!

If you need assistance with working out the household we can help you, but i doubt you'll get anyone spending their credits to look at images for you.

First enter the data you know, **** Cousins his DoB and search. Then when you know his living location, note this down. Remove his forename and DoB, enter the County and area, then in the other members of the household box enter his and his wife's names.

HOUSEHOLD COUSINS CHARLES M 1893 18 Brentford Middlesex
HOUSEHOLD COUSINS MR CHARLES M 1864 47 Brentford Middlesex
HOUSEHOLD COUSINS MRS EMILY F 1864 47 Brentford Middlesex

Without looking at the transcript or the image you will not know the address or the exact people living at the address, but on a free search these are the only people coming up with that surname.

also showing at the address...

HOUSEHOLD BATH MILLIV F 1895 16 Brentford Middlesex

Thanks for your help, Wyane/Tracey and T. I am most grateful to you.

As my great grandmother's maiden name was Bath and there is a Ms Bath in the household, that looks promising.

I know I am going to have to stand in the corner with a hat with a big "D" on for asking this, but I have found Henry Smart and after a number of times of getting no results as I am doing something wrong, I came up with the Henry Smart household comprising:

THOMAS SMART b 1852
WILLIAM SMART b 1886
HENRY SMART b 1883

although I have no confidence that that is correct - if you have a moment could you just tell me if I am doing this correctly.

Graham.
Can you tell us where the Smart family are born so we can check if we get the same information

Just guessing.
I entered Thomas Smart 1852 found living in Brentford.
Using advanced search of those living with Thomas

Thomas Smart 1852.
Emma 1843
Alfred John 1882.
Anna Elizabeth 1882
Ida 1901
Ernest 1902
Albert 1904
William 1909
1911 census entering Henry Smart 1883 living Brentford
household.
John Smart 1857
Henry 1883
Lilian Bertha 1890
John George 1898

If I enter William Smart 1886 living Brentford. 2 pages of Smart family comes up.

Hi Quinsgran

A long story, but to paraphrase it ...

My grandfather was born in Fulham in 1886 to Charles Smart (c.1864/5) and Emily Smart (nee Bath c.1864/5), I don't know where they came from (the marriage certificate is on its way). It is possible that they may call themselves Charles and Emily Cousins by 1911.

Henry moved to Acton before 1920 and the Henry Smart I am looking at is the only only around his age that I can see on the 1911 census in the Acton area.

Thanks

Graham

Graham Report 26 Sep 2009 21:34

Hi again Quinsgran

Sorry - I didn't get all of the message at first. I believe that my grandfather married in 1906, so they don't look very promising as I don't think that he had much family. However, it's useful to eliminate them and I will have to search around a bit more (and practice on the 1911 site).

Thanks again for your help.

There's a baptism of Harry John Smart to Charles & Emily Smart in Fulham, Charles was a Marine Stne Dealer?

Born 24th May 1886 and baptised on 10th Oct 1886 in Fulham

Possible? (maybe not but I'm clutching straws here lol)

I knew of a Smart family in Fulham but that was in the 1970's

Graham

Graham Report 26 Sep 2009 23:57

Thanks everyone. I'm really grateful to you.

Thanks again T .... Charles was indeed a "marine store dealer" and Henry was born on 24 May, so that will be his baptism. I'll look for some more details.

Quinsgrans - thanks to you again also ... I'll look up the 1910 Census first thing tomorrow.

Also thanks Julie, as part of this great puzzle my Grandfather stopped using the name Smart in the 1920s (no idea why) so it may be some relatives, but thanks anyway.

ok this is very sketchy right now but i think i may have found a link for you... Below is the 1891 census, and there is a Henry Smart living at the address as Wife's brother (BiL to the head) sooooo Louisa Sarah Mitchell was a Smart, and Henry may well also be your Charles brother??

Remembering this is the same family whom had a child (Albert) baptised at the same time as your Harry John, and both families giving the same address on the baptism record. The address itself is a little weird still cannot work it out but looks like Harlop Avenue(?).

OK then,

Louisa's marriage proving she was a Smart....

SMART Louisa Fulham 1a 426

and the 1871 census.... with Louisa, Henry and Charles altogether!!!

I love it when a plan comes together...!!

So the baptism record is actually Louisa and her brother Charles having their children baptised together, and using the same address (probably actually living together) with all their families. The 1891 has Henry living with his sister Louisa before maybe marrying himself...!

So that one issue solved lol.
